The one-man band used to be a complex affair, requiring octopus-like dexterity, ropes and pulleys. But technology has made it much easier to make music without a traditional band.

However, only one man has taken that to its absurdist extreme: Jay Vance. After playing in bands like Blue Meanies and Skankin' Pickle, he ditched humans altogether and built himself a band of robots. That's right, robots.

Vance performs rock 'n' roll with a cast of animatronic live musicians. And it's truly astounding to see.

Vance and his "band" will be gracing Boise in April with a gig at The Shredder. And it's not just any ol' day in April: The band will be here on Saturday, April 20, which is, for no reason in particular, an especially good day to see something weird. The show costs $10 and starts at 9 p.m.
