Need Something To Do Tuesday?

If you've ever brought up graphic novels to a literature professor, you've probably gotten a taste of how much derision an academic can muster.

"I used to read comics when I was a kid," he or she might say condescendingly. "But I'm not a kid anymore."

But your lit prof was wrong. From the Shahnameh (the Persian Book of Kings) to Alan Moore's From Hell, graphic novels are an ancient, respectable and vital literary medium.

Today at the Library at Hillcrest, 5246 W. Overland Road, from 4-5 p.m., there's Manga Mania and Comic Chaos, a discussion group about manga, comics and graphic novels.

Tonight, let out your inner kid or tell the world that grown-ups read comics, too.
