Once upon a time advertising was pretty direct: "Buy this thing now because it's better than other things." Watch this for reference.
Not so much anymore. Ad writers work around the edges, trying to create a general feeling that will then be associated with a product. There was a recent uproar over a Mountain Dew commercial by Tyler, the Creator that was said to be wildly racist, but the commercial also failed because it didn't make sense in relation to Mountain Dew.
But that's not the case with the genius commercial/short film for Audi below. It brings together Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy for a sort of battle of the Spocks, old school versus new school. The commercial also showcases how the new Audi is just as sleek and futuristic as JJ Abrams' take on Star Trek.
It's also a virtual checklist of hilarious Star Trek fanboy references. There's even a shoutout to Leonard Nimoy's musical stylings.
