The principles of democracy make the world seem like a better place. From presidential elections to the Nielsen ratings, every time people vote on what they like best, resources are allocated to things the majority of people appreciate.

That's the ethic behind the Singer/Songwriter Showcase taking place tonight at The Crux from 7-10 p.m. Here's what happens: Three local singer/songwriters each play a 30-minute set of original music. Then, the audience picks the winner, who will compete later in a Singer/Songwriter Showdown for free recording time at Tonic Room.

The performers include Johnny Butler, Austin Clark and Karen Kohtz. Following their performances, touring band Icarus The Owl will play.

Each attendee gets one vote, plus one additional vote for every beer or coffee purchased, and the showcase is free to attend. As always, this event is open to all ages.
