Punk rock was born out of a dissatisfaction with the lavish excesses of rock's gilded age, making it more of a tradition than a distinctive set of musical sensibilities.

Bearing the torch of that tradition is Boise ska sextet PirkQlaters, playing tonight at The Knitting Factory Concert House with The Useless, James Plane Wreck and Piranhas BC. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $8-$15.

After the show, which promises some horn-and-guitar-driven sonic goodness, hit up the afterparty, going down at Sammy's starting at 11:30 p.m. and featuring guest boozemasters.
