Local Americana group Like a Rocket often plays shows that could be best described as "undercover." But that didn't stop local music blog Here Comes the Dumptruck from calling it one of the five best bands in the state, nor does it stop the band's slow but steady progress.

Like a Rocket's songs have slowly grown longer, noisier and more ambitious, and the group has simultaneously sharpened its Americana roots songwriting and the Southern drawl vocals of frontman Speedy Gray.

The next stop on that road is the band's second album, a western gothic concept piece called Welcome to Anhedonia, which Like a Rocket announced will be released Saturday, July 20 at Visual Arts Collective.

Opening for Like a Rocket at its album release show are James Plane Wreck and Marshall Poole.

Two preview tracks from Welcome to Anhedonia can be heard below.
