Tomorrow's the Big Day LeBoisekateers

We've been yammering on about The Big LeBoise for near on three months now. And if we've done it right, that means you should all be marching back and forth chanting the schedule in unison while performing the official BW salute.

But in case you've been in cave on Mars with your ears plugged, BW is throwing a rocking block party tomorrow, on Saturday, Saturday, SATURDAAAAY!

We're kicking it off with a Bloody Mary showdown between Quinn's and the Piper Pub at 10 in the a.m. Judging are Bingo Barnes. Doug Flanders, Josh from "The V", FameFifteen and Minerva Jayne.

Once everyone is sufficiently full of peppered booze, there's a killer music lineup (see below) from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., followed by a DJ-led dance party.

If you get hungry, there's grub and booze from Willi B's, Kickin Chickin, the Boise Co-Op, City Peanut Shop and Ben and Jerry's.

And on top of all that, we're raffling off a sweet Vespa S 50 scooter. Tickets are only $10 and we're going to be selling 'em right up to go time.

All that said, you'd have to be crazy not to check it out. And we mean like, this guy, crazy. But since reading BW is a clear sign of sanity, that's obviously not the case and we'll expect to see y'all on Saturday.

In one final piece of Big LeBoise news, sadly, Fauxbois had to step aside from their 4 p.m. "rock slot." Luckily, the judges selected a runner-up who would step in should for any reason Fauxbois be unable to fulfill their 4 p.m. duties.

And that runner-up is ... A Seasonal Disguise.

The complete lineup is now..

11 a.m. The fleet-fingered jamming of Sherpa.
High noon: The bare-footed stomping of Hillfolk Noir.
1 p.m. The boot-gazing stylings of New Transit
2 p.m. The adorable munchkins of the Boise Rock School.
3 p.m. The Trevor Kamplains of ATTN
4 p.m. The real faces of A Seasonal Disguise.
And rounding things out at 5 p.m. The omnipresence of Finn Riggins.

Dear Boise Weekly: I hear you're having a boozy block party with killer local bands and calling it The Big LeBoise. Now I like music, and I certainly like gettin' hammered. But that's how I ended up with a gaggle of children that might belong to NIkki Sixx. Point is, I'd love to come down to your block party, but I can't afford a sitter. What can I do?

Signed: Proud And Resilient Exile from the NighTlife.

Dear P.A.R.E.N.T.,

To quote Bob Barker: "Come on down!" And bring the kids with you, because BW's got you covered. While you're busy getting sauced at our Bloody Mary contest or swaying back and forth with a lighter chanting "Freebird!" at a very indignant-looking New Transit, the little ones can stay entertained with the balloon twisting ninjutsu of Jon Swartout or the breakdancing of MT Theory and the B-Boys.

So now you can see, that there's nothing to worry about. Just turn your kids over to "the media," and they'll be fine. Which should leave you free to recharge the batteries enough to get through the first week of school. Everybody wins.

Vespas! Get Your Vespas Right Here. Just $10 for a Brand New Vespa!

While I'm sure if I put my mind to it I could find some clever tie-in or cultural what-have-you to segue into the brass tacks, let's just cut to the chase here: BW is giving raffling off a scooter. Tickets are 10 bucks. You want to win this thing to impress some attractive person with your obvious taste and style, because it ain't gonna happen otherwise.

But wait you say, "10 bucks?" What kind of scooter would BW even bother to give away for such an absurdly low price?

Well I'm glad I had you ask, cause this ain't just any ol' scooter. It's a genuine Vespa S 50, the scootinest scoot around. You can't tack "Libby" onto the end of this thing even if you wanted to. It'll rocket your stylish patoot around at 39 mph, while getting nearly 90 mpg; Hot dog! And if that ain't enough for you, it's also got a newly redesigned engine, making it the most powerful 50cc engine out there. And it comes with custom pin-striping and a warranty.

For a total prize package worth .... $5,000!!! Yup. That's quite the prize for only a $10 ticket. Why would we give it away? Because we're crazy we love our readers.

We're going to be selling tickets right up until the drawing and you don't have to be present to win. But since we're doing the drawing at our block party, The Big LeBoise, with all kinds of awesome bands and chow, why wouldn't you want to be here to ride your new scooter home?

Bites and Booze at The Big LeBoise

Saturday morning is a magical time when you wake up sweating and fully-dressed from the night before so you can totter into the loo and contemplate what you ate the night before. It's a good system.

But sadly, it's starting to get a bit played out. It's generally the same bathroom you end up in after going to the same bars. And it's always the same promise never to drink again that you make to yourself. Which is coincidentally the same one you break once Saturday night rolls around.

You gotta admit, the experience is getting a bit stale.

What the hangover needs is a rebranding, a way to "zazz" it up a bit. And BW has just the thing: A bloody mary contest. That's right, we paired up with Boise Pride and Bakon and 44 North vodkas to make hangovers fun, by seeing who can get rid of them the quickest, the tastiest and with the most flair.

Fifteen bars were in the preliminaries and the final two, Quinn's and The Piper Pub, will square off at our block party, The Big LeBoise, on Saturday, Aug. 28 to see whose mary is bloodiest.

Judging are Bingo Barnes. Doug Flanders, Josh from "The V", Fame Fifteen and Minerva Jayne. Drinking, will be you. And you. And you. And you. And most definitely you.

But hey, while we're on a roll of awesomeness, why stop with drinking? We say not to pass go and collect $200, but to go directly to sinking your teeth into some tasty vittles.

That's why there's also going to be chow from Willi B's, Kickin Chickin, the Boise Co-Op, City Peanut Shop and Ben and Jerry's.

Looks like Saturday morning just got a whole lot tastier.

Gowalla Drink Some Bloody Marys?

Posted By on Tue, Aug 17, 2010 at 6:45 PM

BloodyMary1903.jpg

The first phase of Boise Weekly's Big LeBoise Bloody Mary contest is finished and we have winners. Taking the top two places in both categories are Quinn's and Piper Pub. Bartenders from both bars will face off at the Big LeBoise Saturday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at BWHQ on Broad Street.

But you, too, can be a winner. Whether you made the rounds putting bloody marys to the test on BW's behalf or not, you can still win a $100 gift certificate for Bull's Head Pub.

We've set up a trip on location-based social networking site Gowalla. Be the first to check in at all the stops along the trip and you've got yourself $100 to blow on food and drinks at the Meridian pub.

Visit boiseweekly.com and click on the "Be the First to Win" icon, or click here to see the trip on Gowalla.
