We were extremely excited to have been invited to play a brand new music festival called 'Birds on a Wire' (www.birdsonawirefest.com) in Pullman, WA last Saturday night! The actual festival took place over two days Friday March 26th and Saturday March 27th. This festival was put together by Larson Hicks of www.stereopathicmusic.com. So many great bands were a part of this event including: Justin Townes Earle, Rocky Votolato, Damien Jurado, Horse Feathers, Sera Cahoone, The Maldives, Mimicking Birds, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, Yarn Owl, Pablo Trucker, etc. etc.. The talent list was exciting to say the least!

We had a good show with Portland's Blue Skies For Black Hearts and local band With Child at one of our favorite local venues, the Visual Arts Collective on Friday night so we missed one full day of 'Birds on a Wire'. We really wanted to get up there early and experience as much of the festival as possible so we got a bright and early start Saturday morning leaving Boise around 9am. The drive to the Palouse from Boise has got to be one of the most beautiful drives on the map! We took a little more time than it would usually take, stopping to take a look back at White Bird in Hells canyon and then stopping in Grangeville for a bite to eat. Apparently Bishop's Bistro in Grangeville had Mexican coke but we missed the opportunity to try it and went for coffee instead.. I hear they use sugar instead of corn syrup and it's a bit smoother. Josh got a great shot of their advertisement in the window...

We rolled into Pullman at about 3pm. Got checked in and headed over to the Gladish Community Center to check out the set up and watch some bands. The staff was really nice and helpful and the crowds seemed pretty excited about the whole event. We didn't get to check out as much music as we would have liked but we did get to see at least some of Sera Cahoone, Pablo Trucker, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam band. After checking out a few bands we ventured into the green room for the dinner break. The 'Birds on a Wire' folks really treated us great, with dinner and two kegs of beer. This doesn't always happen but it's always appreciated when a promoter takes care of the performers!

After dinner we were the first band out of the gates at the Gladish Gym stage at 8pm. We were really happy with the crowd.. not huge but definitely better than others and perfect for our first time playing in Pullman! We have a small tour scheduled for the end of April and we're excited, now more than ever, to be starting in Moscow, ID at John's Alley Wed. 4/21 w/ Matt Hopper.

Our new friends Yarn Owl(Pullman, WA) went on after us and rocked once again! We also caught a bit of the Final Spins and then headed to the Gladish Auditorium for Justin Townes Earle.. that guy is amazing! One man, one guitar, spilling his guts and engaging the crowd like a seasoned veteran of his craft! Blew us away!

Such a satisfying experience. If you get the chance to head up there next year, do it!!! We want to thank our drummer Mike's family members Eric and Kim for letting us stay at their house in Moscow that night... and what a night it was!! Eric is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and maybe just maybe the loudest man I have ever met!! Moscow's finest had to come and tell us... well mostly Eric (whom we bestowed with the moniker MEGAPHONE JESUS) to turn down the volume a couple notches. :) So FUN and we made it home safe and sound!
