3701 Crescent Rim 

Finally, I killed the cat—not literally, just my curiosity. Somehow, these condos have eluded me for years. I could only imagine what it would be like to hang out by the pool, talking it up with all the hip neighbors over some Frank Sinatra and gin cocktails. Although over the years, I do not recall seeing anyone at all taking advantage of the outdoor amenities. Perhaps it was because the pavement gets really hot on "those" days and I did not dare expose myself to that torture (although someone might have taken pity on my sweat'n, heat-exhausted little soul and escorted me in for a refreshing dip). Part of my curiosity was finding out who lived in these places and just how swanky the set-up really is.

Entry into the complex is off of Meadow Street, where a driveway leads to a large parking area. Each residence has two stalls, one of which is covered, and there is guest parking available. A pair of anodized aluminum doors open into the lobby space, which is filled with big, poofy leather furniture, bluish patterned carpet and mailboxes. Several suites on the first floor are available to be used by the tenants for certain occasions: relatives paying a visit, parties, etc. I took the elevator up to the third floor and stepped off into another smaller lobby, where a solid flush panel door with glass bottled bottom patterned side lights immediately caught my eye. The door opens out to the exterior where a covered walkway that leads to each residence and a brick screen wall offers protection from the elements. For the most part, walking along is like trying to find a motel room, except that each owner has their own style of door. Some doors are decorative and ornate, others are simple, but this unit had a wooden door.

The front door opens up into a narrow hallway, with a closet to the right, light switch to the left, and most importantly, an awesome view of downtown Boise straight ahead. The entire space, all 926 square feet (with the exception of the bath) has new Pergo flooring. The walls are painted light shades of yellow or beige with white trim.

The u-shaped kitchen is small but efficient. It has plain, white cabinets, plastic laminate countertops and a small raised bar area that separates the space from the dining/living area. The dining area flows into the living area but is semi-defined by the brushed nickel chandelier.

The living area is roomy, large enough for normal furniture (I would stay away from anything too big and puffy). A wall of glass runs the full width of the room. The small balcony, with a half-high wall of the decorative block, looks out to the pool and grounds below.

The master bedroom is accessed through sliding French doors just off of the living area. The room is dec'd out with a rusty orange accent wall, ceiling fan and mirrored sliding closet doors. The single bath is accessed through a small hallway; the tub and tile work all look original. The other bedroom is decent in size, a Murphy bed is included in the deal, so the space can easily double as an office/guest room.

Outside is the pool, grass and well-maintained landscaping. The monthly association fees go toward keeping all that looking good and green, as well as paying for heating, cooling, electricity, water, sewer, basic cable and probably a few other things. So the only thing left to pay is phone.

PROS: Plenty of yard and pool to play in, but no green thumb required, and, I am not sure, but I think a cabana boy/girl is included in the monthly fee (someone needs to be serving up cocktails on those hot days lounging by the pool).

CONS: The sliding door bottom track is a little clunky. Maybe some of those monthly fees can go toward remodeling the lobby and common areas. The asking price with the monthly fees seems high, but that's the Boise market.
