  • LaRocco Office Broken Into

It ain't the Watergate Hotel, but Democrat Larry LaRocco's office was broken into over the weekend.

"Nothing was taken," said LaRocco spokesman Dean Ferguson. "There really is a lot of valuable equipment here. We may have even had a little cash on hand."

The crook, who may or may not have been a Cuban national, was not seen in the act.

The crook apparently broke in by kicking open the door of the campaign offices on 27th Street in Boise.

"We can't tell if anything was inspected," Ferguson said.

  • For ID Senate: Risch and LaRocco

And they're off, and boy do we feel overwhelmed by deja vu around here.

With Lt. Gov. Jim Risch's announcement today that he's entering the race to replace U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, Idaho gets a rematch.

Once again we have Risch the Republican running against Larry LaRocco, the Democrat. Risch trounced LaRocco in the 2006 race for lieutenant governor.

In a downtown announcement, surrounded by a herd of fellow Republicans (except for Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, hmmm) Risch made it plain: he's in.

  • Web Roundup

It's hot, thunderstorms are in the offing and Democratic senatorial candidate Larry LaRocco is trying on the smokejumper hat. Read about it courtesy of Betsy Russell here.

Idaho Radio News has the beta on who's going to replace Victor Pacania at Boise State Radio, check that out here. And while you're thinking BSU radio, read about their money man Hy Kloc here.

We got a not-so-happy note from Kip Wills about posting the below item from the City Hall public hotline, and we'll publish it if he gives us permission. Oh, and yeah, we know that Dave Frazier's been posting the caller logs. We know a good idea when we see it. But this guy thinks we're, like, totally unoriginal.

  • The Rex Rammell Candidacy

It's hard to see this as anything other than a grudge match, but campaigns have been built of flimsier things.

We speak, of course, of the U.S. Senate candidacy of Rex Rammell. Why is his name newsworthy? Only because he let a herd of domestic elk escape his ranch, then got into a series of public spats with wildlife officials, law enforcement, and one guy who, at the time, was running our state.

So when Lt. Gov. Jim Risch said he was looking at running for the seat that might get vacated by U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, Rammell wasn't slow on the draw, either.

  • Blogging With Larry

Ever the campaign innovator, Democrat Larry LaRocco will kick off the first of a series of live-blogging "events" tonight at 8 p.m. over at the Democratic Web site IdaBlue.

LaRocco has announced his intention to run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Larry Craig, a Republican. (Sen. Craig has yet to say whether he's running or not.)

Live blogging. So hip. So "now." Will it help?
