I fail to see a reason for the praise of this eatery. I've eaten there a half-dozen times and every time I come away with the same opinion ... cafeteria food. Highly overrated.
The bacon at Berryhill's is out of this world; the best I've ever had anywhere, hands down! However, the rest of the experience is mediocre at best. The service is not good. We had to ask to have a table cleaned and I'm not a fan of not having wait staff to ensure that everything is to my liking. We had to go find our own silverware, drinks, etc. The price point is way too high for not providing wait staff...Not a fan and I wouldn't go back.
We have gone to the goose a l-o-n-g time. Lately, we experienced poor service, told items were not available when they were,...and...since we drink wine, were dissatisfied with the small serving we got at full price . we will not go back until the service is what we know should be at state Street.
Been there twice. Both times the food was good, but the service was terrible. I don't mind waiting for good, well prepared food when you have an attentive wait staff and good service. However both times the wait staff seemed to forget we existed. We had to track them down for another drink or more water. The first time we went we had to get our food to-go because we were attending a show and running late. And we were at the restaurant 3 hours early. The second time we were in the restaurant for 3 hours and dealing with terrible service. Good enough food, but for us not worth the time and bad service.
It started in the poorly-lit parking lot where reaching the entrance is a gauntlet of trip hazards for able-bodied patrons, let alone those with a handicap. The entrance is a nightmare, with no room to move and even less room to sit/stand and wait. The entrance is also the bar ??? – it’s congested chaos. A yurt was set up outside in the parking lot for diners waiting to be seated inside the restaurant, and rather than a wait person taking our drink order, putting it on our tab, and bringing it to us, we had to elbow our way between folks seated at the bar to buy our own and carry it outside. Pandemonium.
Our food was so-so, and the pasta was bland and flat because the water it was cooked in was obviously not salted. There’s no way to correct that once it’s covered in sauce – clearly someone in the kitchen doesn’t know what they’re doing. I’ve eaten in plenty of Italian eateries both in the US and Italy, and this one us about as “authentic” as its garlic bread, Italian dressing, spaghetti (with meatballs) and deep fried mozzarella sticks – Italians don’t eat any of this.
Nope, not anymore.
Alright, this was several months ago but I resolve to now comment on bad service. I went through the drive thru here in the spring. Not only did the staff seem annoyed at my order as I was placing it, I had to wait forever for my food, and the brunette helping me at the window was rude as all hell. I used to love going there... used to. Sorry guys, but all it takes is one bad experience now adays for me to just simply stop going to a restaurant. There are so many restaurants out there that go out of their way to be good to customers that I don't have time for some over hyped burger joint.
I agree that Kendri seems kinda nuts. With this said though I recently got some rude service and so-so food from this establishment. I won't be coming back.
Mediocre food high prices.
Service lacks at dinner. Food is bland and unimaginative. Spent $80 on dinner and felt like I was being treated like a second rate customer. Sandwiches are okay, but who cares when Bluebird is right on the corner.
When this place first opened top rate service and food, there was this one red head guy waiter and a dark haired gal with tats that were just awesome. Then when they left so did everything I liked about that place-except the mac and cheese. Just horrible service which is just too bad as the food is great. I took my family there one day after I had not been in for a year (refused to go and support waitress' who did nothing but chat at the bar) and we waited probably 20 minutes to get a menu and this was at 3pm, maybe 2 other customers in the whole place. I got very upset and thank goodness for my Mom she calmed me down and stated you just never go back, and to this day that is what I am doing. When they decide to get someone who actually wants to work as a server and has the customer service skills needed for a job such as this I may go back as that Mac n cheese is just so dam good.
Copper Canyon is now The View. Same location but new management and chef. Service was friendly but forgetful. Waiter forgot to bring our drink order. Had to ask for water refill. My steak was grisly, looked and tasted like it had been cooked while still frozen, thus boiled. Limp vegetables. My friend's fish was fine.
Not even a shadow of its former self--new owners are surviving on past owners' reputation, I'm afraid ...
Decor is mid-80's old folks' home; service is a little spotty - bread came out after everyone was done with entrees. The syrup/carbonation mix at the bar soda dispenser is way off.
The steamed vegetables that came with the halibut were limp and thoroughly uninspired - a few carrots, a few green beans, all completely devoid of seasoning.
The coating on the fish from the fish and chips entree was soggy and not even a little crispy; fries were bland; the caesar dressing tasted like it was out of a bottle.
Others in my group were impressed, but I am entirely underwhelmed. Where was the chef? Is it so hard to do good fried fish?
Wouldn't go back. I spent $20 for fish and chips and a caesar salad I can do better at home.
went there last night with another couple, we heard this place rocks, the BEST, well
it was not even close to being average, mall food, taco bell will beat this.
I have eaten here probably 6 times over as many years. In every circumstance, I've had good food and tepid/disinterested service. With 10 Barrel and other options available now, I doubt I'll return.
The food is okay, if you like food without any flavor... But, the employees do not wash their hands, even when handling food after handling money. I have also seen them eating over the food prep area, and of course, not washing their hands after eating and before handling food... The few times I've been inside, there's always a bunch of flies all over the place, crawling on the food (especially the pizza that's out for individual slices, and not kept warm). Pretty disgusting if you ask me... I hope they get a surprise health inspection soon...
Went away hungry! Grabbed dessert somewhere else because we weren't even close to being full! Seriously - rice is cheap! Give a little more of it please!
Some of the food items are pretty good, but not worth the unfriendly service. I have been there a couple times, and have been treated like an "outsider" every time. Had the same experience as some of the other reviewers when I ordered food - seemed to annoy the girl working there. The bartender didn't seem to want to be friendly, serve us beverages, or be polite in general. I live very close and will not be going back unless something really changes with the attitudes. Decent food does not overcome terrible service.
you can get a hot dog just as good at the 7-11. Overpriced. The best hot dog in town is the hot dog guy in front of the Home Depot on Milwaukee.
