I've been there to deliver donations. The situation is absolutely awful and continues to worsen. I've written letters, but they get ignored. There are so many empty lots in Boise that the City could set up an area with sanitation where people could camp. At least it would be easier for police to protect inhabitants and keep a lid on unlawful behavior.
Give someone a badge and a little authority and they become an overbearing power hungry bully. Dog cops, real cops, security guards, whatever. All of them walk out the front door with an "us against them" mentality.
Welcome to the PRI (People's Replublic of Idaho). Its a place where the government no longer represents the people who now live here. We just need to douche our government and refresh it with leadership that does reflect the people who now live here....not used to live here in 1920.
I am so disgusted w idaho's powers that be. Every other week they show how ignorant, greedy, and anti-progressive they are. I'm feed up. Me and mine would like nothing more than to relocate to OR where the overwhelming theme is progression. For the betterment of humanity and Earth. Unlike these Darilek ignoramuses that run Idaho, who's head is so far up each other's @$$€$, they're blind.
How can anyone assume that power rates are going down significantly? No, this change does not protect rate payers significantly. It does make investment in alternate energy very iffy--what if Idaho Power prefers to build a coal-powered plant instead and simply does not renew contracts at any price?
Wind poweris rediculus, its expensive, it kills more protected birds than all other causes combined. It destroys some of the most beautiful scenery in the west. It make an obsene guaranteed income for land rapers for 20 years.
I'm happy that contract(s) limited down to 2 years which is still to long. It is foolish and fraudulent for Idaho Power and the other electrical companies that service Idaho to be forced to purchase solar power at higher rates and passing those higher costs on to customers all for feel good agenda.
Solar just like wind is unpredictable in output and involves higher than normal cost to initiate and maintain. Their not profitable and depend on subsidies and they still fold (Hello Solindra). Until these alternative energies are more dependable, more cost efficient and can surpass the energy needs of the population (Current and projected) there no reason again for consumers to pay more for electricity generated by proven and traditional means. Solar and it's cousin wind are nothing more than a novelty at this time that's driven by political rather than economic demand.
Sanctions? Some people need to go to jail over this.
This scheme, whereby the utility companies have to buy power from alternative energy producers does nothing but force the people who use power to pay more for it. When the utility is forced to buy something, at whatever cost, there's no free market. This scheme is ripe for a small business to make money on the backs of the rate payers. You put up enough solar panels to have a surplus of energy, and Idaho Power is compelled to buy it from you, even if they can't use it. Then the feds come in with nice tax credits. Another way the taxpayer gets hit.
Gee. A school district that has 293 students in k-12.
Here's an idea. Consolidate school districts. There would be more opportunities for kids, taxpayers would catch a break and teachers could have jobs. The agrarian model of school is long overdue for change.
If the meridian school district can have 35,000 kids, then I would assume merging with the M is ow school district would be eminently doable.
The PURPA nightmare is pure Al Gore type convoluted thinking. These solar, wind, and other small alternative energy projects get huge Federal subsidies to start up and build. They hire very expensive Washington Lobbyists to press for more and more subsidy. Then they get this PURPA nonsense that requires Idaho Power to buy the power at AVOIDED cost. That means Idaho Power has to pay a much higher rate. It is based on the cost to propose, license, build, and operate a brand new gas or oiled fired plant. Idaho Power has a MUCH lower average cost of power production currently available. This includes the clean and low cost Snake River damns. PURPA nonsense make blowhards like Gore rich. It makes us pay much higher prices for electric power AND pay the taxes to support projects that are not otherwise feasible.
Maybe someday Idaho will join the real world. Solar and wind power have technologically advanced in the last three years and are now competitive with coal and natural gas. But I don't think they beat water power yet. I suspect that is the issue.
There is no mention in this article about Wind Power? Does wind power have the same two year term? Aren't alot of the wind generated power companies also major oil producers? I understand the major oil companies start smaller companies that will allow them to receive more per KW for the energy produced, than if they were the big company! Power companies have to take the energy produced? All costs to Idaho Power are passed on to, US, their customers! Maybe our energy would be better served trying to understand why we pay for Energy Efficiency Services??
IdaCorp stockholders are dancing in the streets. Responsible forward-thinking citizens assume the PUC is in bed with them!
They say dry cells are for serious cases, but I doubt any healthcare organization is going to look at it as therapeutic or necessary. Call it what it is... abusing mentally ill people. How is it helping anyone to traumatize people who are already dysfunctional? The abuse and profiteering isn't doing anything but creating a revolving door and a stigma that victimizes people. Especially, the poor and disenfranchised who can't afford representation.
Risch and Crapo don't have anything significant to do with education in Idaho. Lay that one on our state legislators.
On February 27th the Boise Weekly had an article titled "Otter Approves $1 Million For Defense of Idaho Gay Marriage Ban "
On March 23rd KBOI channel 2 posted an article directly focused on the department of education titled "Lawmakers learn of $60 million in wasted tax money"
The last 3 years we have given Rep. Ken Ivory of Utah $15,000 to help him sell Idaho land. (Idaho Democratic Party Monday, 17 November 2014)
And my favorite issue, the waste of tax money incarcerating marijuana users/dealers and other people who commit "consensual crimes".
The waste of money in Idaho list could be very long. (Do and good investigation of that Boise Weekly)
Education should be at the top of our priorities, but...
But what can we expect from a state that welcomes the Northwest Science Museum (creationist museum). Idaho lawmakers don't believe in evolution, in science or social priorities..
Boise in the late 1980's was pot hole hell. Chip sealing has been a vast improvement, not only is savings but in drivability.
With apologies to Roger Waters, "We don't need no education here". Idaho coddles its millionaires and could care less about public education.
Idaho exists to make Mississippi look good.
Stop voting for the same idiots that don't support good education in Idaho. Risch ..Crappo & Butch ..to name a few!
