Re: “Boise Hive Needs to Raise $210,000 by Oct. 9

Hopefully it becomes an "one door closes another open" story.. Good luck to a great and greatly needed organization.

Re: “Downtown Boise Association Announces Alive After Five 2015 Acts

Will the fountain be on? If not, it will not be Alive After Five. Please make ready clean, empty plastic cups for the children to scoop up water to throw on each other.

Re: “TED Extends Itself to Boise

As a professional working in the Silicon Valley in the late 80’s through the 90’s I have attended a few TED Conferences in Monterey, just over the hill. While they were invitation events, it wasn't too hard to come by one of those. Nevertheless, in the “old days” the quality of the audience was determined by the interest and curiosity of the attendees. It is amazing to read that evaluating the quality of individuals who would like to attend TEDxBoise has been refined to an audience application process. One can only imagine the quality of the people who are determining the quality of each interested potential attendee. They must be stupendous, or perhaps a word that sounds similar. Conceivably the person behind this significant feat deserves to present their own TED Talk.

Re: “TED Extends Itself to Boise

It's really a questionable process. First, they want a "quality" audience, so they have them write an essay about...why they're worthy of listening to some notable community members, selected by a self-selected committee, speak for a few minutes on a dramatically lit stage? The desirability of the prize aside, a friend of mine who's very intelligent, very socially conscious and active, has something of a writing disability. He wanted to see the event, but couldn't write an essay, so gave up. Then there's the speaker selection. One of the selected speakers is the father of the event organizer. If the event is to be socially (if not professionally) credible, there should be some rules in place about that kind of thing.

Re: “Boise City Dept. of Arts and History Awards Grants

Benj is wrong - all of these sound like cool projects. Art is an essential part of our community and culture. In fact - this is just pennies as compared to what it should be.

Re: “Amateur Poetry Contest

Hello, how are you. My name is Susie G. and I've been writing poems since 12/13. I have been entered in a poetry contest and wrote a poem called without you. I so called "won" and had to come to Orlando, Florida to claim my prize and also to recite my poem. At the time I was going through a rough time in my life and could not afford a plane ticket to get there. To make a long story short I received nothing from this. How will I be able to tell the difference between a false/real poety site?

I know this article was written in 2004, but I'm interested in finding a copy of Jackson's zine? The link www.geocites.com/loopholedistro doesn't work anymore, but I haven't tried the email. Please help.

Re: “Francoise Duresse's "The Paper Bag Test"

.
There is actually no such thing as a so-called "Light-Skinned
Black" person ... but rather ... such individuals and groups
are actually people who are of a 'Multi-Generational
Multiracially-Mixed' (MGM-Mixed) Lineage that some may
have been pressured or encouraged to ignore or downplay.
.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Generation-M…
.
People of Mixed-Race lineage should NOT feel pressured to
'identify' according to any standards other than one's own.
.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Generation-M…
.
The legal -application of the racist-'One-Drop Rule'
(ODR) was banned in the U.S. way back in 1967.

.
Listed below are related Links of 'the facts' of the histories
of various Mixed-Race populations found within the U.S.:
.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.
There is no proof that a 'color-based slave hierarchy'
(or that 'color-based social-networks') ever existed
as common entities -- within the continental U.S.
.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Generation-M…
.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Generation-M…
.
It was the 'Rule of Matriliny (ROM) -- [a.k.a. 'The Rule of Partus'
(ROP)] -- and NOT the racist-'One-Drop Rule' (ODR) -- that was
used to 'create more enslaved people' on the continental U.S.
.
This is because the chattel-slavery system that was
once found on the antebellum-era, continental U.S.
was NOT "color-based" (i.e. "racial") -- but rather
-- it was actually "mother-based" (i.e. 'matrilineal').
.
http://www.facebook.com/allpeople.gifts/po…
.
There were many ways (and not solely the sexual assault
and sexual exploitation of the women-of-color) in which
'white' lineage entered the familial bloodlines of
enslaved-people found on the continental U.S.

Re: “Boise Weekly Cover Auction Grants Announced

This is fantastic! We're so honored to have been chosen amongst this fine group of recipients. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And yes, to clarify, we know it's odd but the title of our upcoming show is intentionally, grammatically incorrect: There's Chinese Tunnels Under Boise! (and Other Local Legends).

Good luck to everyone!

I have read Dark Moon and I have to say, it is AMAZING. I had to keep reminding myself it was written by a 12 year old. I highly suggest it to EVERYONE. Let's support our local prodedgy Idaho!
