Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

@Charlie: All I'll say to that is that there's a good reason why you don't see too many successful conservative comedians.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

He maybe a comic, however, he is funny as a case of the runs..Uses the C--- word for Palin, then takes a shot at her children.. If anyone finds him funny they are as sick as he is.. He isn't funny and will not watch him, just a jerk that finds calling people names and attacking their families is not any form of funny.. If any one referred to his mother as a C--- there would be lawsuits all around..He is a sick a--hole

Re: “There's Chinese Tunnels Under Boise! Explores Memory and Perception

I want so much to love them, but why, why, why, Empty Boat, must you use women's bodies as props? You're two for two with a particularly unpleasant theme around women. How about, say, writing full women characters with personalities and stories that don't exist merely to help develop male characters?

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

You have right to your own opinion, but not to your own facts whatever the case.and if your facts are way off ,you will hear it. And then if one wont listen or attemt to look it up, you feel attackt but by openminded Reason, on missinfomation. Now you face: To accsept being wrong on a issue or , improving your views and opinions towards whats true
But ,nooo, lets judge even more, tell lies to challenge his moral. Its low and Ironic.
He should be allowed to HATE that .
All rationell individs rob hate it.
Dont be so offended all the time, when its clearly not meant to affend YOU.it only shows you cant manage your emotions . Political issues cant be decided on feelings, other world views , predgedist .

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

And one more thing--in terms of respect for women: Suggesting that "openly dating porn stars" indicates Bill's disrespect for women is ridiculous. Porn Stars are women, too. Your attitude toward porn stars seems far more dangerous than Bill's name-calling on his HBO, no holds barred, political talk show. Would you have more respect for Bill if he secretly dated porn stars? Who should he date?

Why does any of this indicate that he will be violent toward women?

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

David--I appreciate your respectful tone and pointing out that you were personally attacked. But your argument had no grounds and was basically holding Maher up as the leader of all liberals everywhere. If you feel your argument wasn't attacked--allow me to talk about it a little bit. First of all, you said, "B.M. seems to HATE more than anyone I have heard of." Nice hyperbole. Totally untrue statement. Can you honestly say he has more hate than anyone because he called a woman the c-word on TV? And you make it sound like a direct attack. The woman was Sarah Palin and she wasn't sitting in front of him. Maybe it's not the most eloquent word choice, but it's certainly what I was thinking--and I am a woman. I don't like the things she did, said, or the way she represented my gender. The rest of your argument in your first comment was a terrible stereotype of liberals as people who preach love of all things and never getting mad or showing hatred! --and I can understand why you might think that. In general, liberals severely dislike the hate crimes that are constantly committed by conservative Christians (in particular) against a host of individuals. Let's say, for a sturdy example, homosexuals. You call liberals hypocrites for enjoying political satire that doesn't handle the right with kid gloves. We can hate hate crimes and still like the people who hate the people who commit them--confusing but true. I don't speak for all liberals, I only speak for myself. But you can't write a bunch of cocky b.s. and then come back later and act superior because you got called on it. So don't feel too proud.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

@Cline:
1. As has been pointed out, the idea that being outraged at a group of people who constantly attempt to pass legislation making groups different from them into second class citizens is "hypocritical" is the dumbest defense mechanism I've ever heard. Your views are an aspect of your character, unlike being gay, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic, or poor. I'll take my "intolerance" over yours any day. Also, I've heard it about 10,000 times before, so I really hope you don't think you're clever.
2. Calling Sarah Palin a cunt does not indicate that he calls all women cunts, anymore than calling someone a dick would mean he calls all men dicks and hates men.
3. Actually, from what I read, most of the comments you've received have been about your argument, not about you. If you've taken anything anyone's said to be a personal attack, it's because what you have said indicates that you support a hateful agenda based on ignorance and intolerance and that you have a lousy grasp of rhetoric. Don't hide behind "I only voiced an opinion here." It's a lousy excuse for people who say stupid things and can't take the appropriate response to them.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

I have made my point about this man. Just so you all know I have seen his show as I refuse to make a judgement about a show I have not seen. I do not know the man nor do I want to. I heard him call a woman a C*NT on national TV (ok, it was cable but cable is national). Isn't that enough? Do you really want to associate with ANY man who does that? Ladies, what if your boyfriend, husband, significant other, partner or what ever called you that, would that be ok? I hope not. And if not ok for him why is it ok for Maher? I work with Domestic Abuse all the time and language is where it starts. Maher is a pig and I have no doubt why he openly dates Porn Stars... I doubt any decent woman with a healthy self image would date him, just so she can be called a C*NT? Now we all just have to agree to disagree. Thanks for the debate.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

I am a German which was lucky enough to enjoy the US as an exchange student. I only watched FOX NEWS in my family, but ever since I got interested in US politics I enjoy watching Bill Maher.

I like his humor and his finds, most of his opinions are spot on! I think he is a beacon in US media... you should be thankful for that. ;)

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

"Comedian" is subjective. Personally, I think Limbaugh is funnier than Maher. "Entertainer" is subjective, as well. I think Limbaugh is more "entertaining," too. To me (with admittedly very limited exposure to either of the aforementioned), Maher comes across as a bitter little man with a vastly-overinflated opinion of himself. Other readers, of course, are free to have differing (and therefore incorrect) opinions.

Please Bill, as a Branson resident - please come here to play - you may not sell out, and you may get picketed, but the few progressives here need some respite from the redneck idiots that have been flushed here.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

It's funny how some people can be intolerant for so long that they've come up with a defense mechanism for it: calling people intolerant for calling them out on their own intolerance. Also, being upset with something in his case means a desire to improve it; it is an act of love of his country, of patriotism. It is not an act of hate. Pretending to love something that is not going well at all does not make someone better than someone who actually speaks out about problems and how they need fixing. I guess some people just hate him for his honesty. He is known as one of the "most politically astute" comedians in America today, meaning he is able to accurately assess the information he obtains. I can hardly imagine being honest and outspoken on issues he actually takes the time to research and understand is an act of hatred. If anything, not doing research and making false assumptions are acts of hatred for their potential to mislead others into disliking him.

Re: “High King of Controversy, Bill Maher, Stands Up to Boise

David,
All evidence to the contrary, I'm going to assume you are not a complete idiot, and are posting your comments as, what you obviously think is a clever, baseball bat-subtle dig at the "LEFT."
Most on the "LEFT" are quite comfortable loathing ignorant bigots.
I know slacked-jawed yokels, all over this country, would love to think that the "LEFT" has to abide racist jerk-offs, like Rush and Glenn Beckkk, but we don't. We won't.
I'll give you the credit that your simple-minded argument, does not make you simple minded.
I'll just put it down to a weak effort on your part, to try and sound like something approaching wit.
Really kinda lame. Or, perhaps, you are that stupid. Then, I apologize.
