Disturbing Weather? Implying what? Do you remember what the weather was like 20 thousand years ago when the latest Ice age began to end, and what is now the Sahara Desert was a land of blue lakes and verdant pastures, and mean sea level was 400 ft lower than presently? How did that happen? Before you answer, remember that 7 ice ages totaling about 700,000 years have come and gone during the last 1 million years and sea level has risen & fallen about 400 ft with each cycle. Think that's caused by humans?
Jack's a Classy Dude and we're lucky to have him around!
I am unemployed yet I am forced to pay for health insurance I can't afford in New York. I don't understand this at all. I guess I don't have to eat ... What a mess !!
A society that respects life does not deliberately kill human beings. An execution is a violent public spectacle of official homicide, and one that endorses killing to solve social problems – the worst possible example to set for the citizenry, and especially children. Governments worldwide have often attempted to justify their lethal fury by extolling the purported benefits that such killing would bring to the rest of society. The benefits of capital punishment are illusory, but the bloodshed and the resulting destruction of community decency are real.
ACLU-Case Against the Death Penalty
This is true, but we live in a society that supports, and has supported, the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children by our military industrial complex.
In virtually every case this mass murder has been justified for nefarious reasons.
This society clearly does not respect life or this wouldn't be occurring....over and over again, up to the present day.
The flag waving that occurs when these military/industrial killing campaigns begin is morally reprehensible, as is the honor and recognition showered on the perpetrators of genocide that occurs.
So....A society that will not only tolerate the murdering of hundreds of thousands, but cheer its occurence, has no actual respect for life and cannot be expected to be disturbed by such an institution as capital punishment.
34% of the states....in the land of the free.
That's an F...but not for Freedom.
Medieval thought still rules the home of the brave.
Here's hoping the federal Common Core curriculum has a module on freedom and human rights.
If so, there may be a chance to move this freedom score beyond an F with the current generation and this might give some value to Common Core.
On second thought, no it won't.
"Procreation has never been a condition of marriage under New Mexico law"the justices wrote.
Is it a condition of marriage in any state?
Or...is it just a condition in those individuals who still choose to be conservative with their awareness?
Now this is one conflicted guy.
Sends drones to kill innocent men, women and children.
Pardons crack cocaine users.
Oh wait, that's right, crack is his favorite illegal drug of choice.
It's hard to believe he's got something in common with Rob Ford... or is it?
Anything else in common?
Anyway, just helping out some fellow crack heads.
Victimless crimes like this are just used as a catchall to legitimize the bloated Criminal Injustice System and to keep the Prison Industrial Complex at capacity.
Legalization of these drugs would be a giant leap forward, but there's too much money to be made in the black market by various nefarious enterprises.
Heard about Wells Fargo Bank laundering drug cartel money?
Seen the photos of U.S. troops guarding the poppy crops in Afghanistan?
And again, let's not forget the piles of money to be made from incarceration by the free market private sector prison complex.
Why there's room for plenty of parasites to milk this cash cow.
Let 'em out
Arrest 'em again.
Put 'em in the spinner.
Smartest move so far by Obama.
There's no doubt that the changes that happened in South Africa needed to happen.
And Mandela was certainly instrumental in those changes.
And deserves recognition for his contributions.
What's also a fact is that a key part of his participation in those changes involved terrorism.
He was a leader of the African National Congress (ANC), an organization designated a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department and many governments and intelligence agencies.
He was also a co-founder of the ANC’s Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), a militant terrorist group within a terrorist group.
He was tried and convicted for his terrorist and subversive activities within those organizations.
So....what's particularly interesting about the adoration given the man, is that it supports the use of terrorism to gain one's aims....as long as those aims are deemed lofty by those giving adoration.
This is quite an act of hypocrisy coming from those living in countries that are supposedly fighting a 'War on Terror' around the world.
This just lends credence to the idea that 'One group's terrorist is another group's freedom fighter'.
The Real Reasons Death Penalties/Executions Fell
Nationally, from 1993 to 2012, murders dropped by 41%. Capital murders, the only ones eligible for the death penalty, likely, dropped in the 60-70% range, as capital murders are, most often, those combined with rape, robbery, or other crimes, which have dropped substantially, as well, explaining most of the drop.
Other reasons are:
2) 5 states, with Democratic Governors and Democratic majority legislators, abolished the death penalty and
3) a number of Supreme Court cases have restricted or delayed, even more, the application of the death penalty,
with both since 1994 and both in conflict with the majority will of the people. (A state appellate court vacated New York's death penalty statute).
Two of those states, Illinois and New Jersey, got the vote in during a lame duck session.
4) DA's are aware that some judges are, simply, obstructionists to the law, and those DA's may be reluctant to seek it, as in Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, etc. In California, reform efforts are underway. (Ct & NJ repealed the death penalty).
Those four, likely, account for 90% of the drop in death sentences.
5) The decline in executions is, solely, the product of the case managers - the judges and has nothing to do with popular death penalty support (1).
THE ANTI DEATH PENALTY NONSENSE
Richard Dieter states: "I think the decline begins with the revelations about mistakes in capital cases — that innocent people could get the penalty and almost be executed has shocked the public to the point where death sentences are harder to obtain,".
This is typical anti death penalty drivel, with no evidence to support it.
A Nov. 2010 Angus Reid poll showed that a large majority, 81%, believes that innocents have been executed and, with that same group, responding to the "general" death penalty question, found 83% death penalty support and 13% opposition (2).
That shows no evidence that the US population has turned away from executions based upon the, largely, misleading innocence claims by anti death penalty folks (3).
Possibly 25-40 actual innocents have been sentenced to death and released since 1976. Not 143 (3). That is a 99.6% accuracy rate in convictions, with the 0.4% innocent being released - a very admirable record, which would fuel confidence.
There is no proof of an innocent executed in the US. at least since the 1930s.
The facts tell us that the death penalty is a greater protector of innocents, than is LWOP (3), a reality which would result in even more support for the death penalty.
1) Judges Responsible for Grossly Uneven Executions
2) US Death Penalty Support at 80% (now 86%): World Support Remains High
95% of Murder Victim's Family Members Support Death Penalty
3) The Innocent Frauds: Standard Anti Death Penalty Strategy
THE DEATH PENALTY: SAVING MORE INNOCENT LIVES
Wow, I do believe that when the polar ice caps are melting things will head towards disaster.
its all a joke, has insurance and was dropped. tryed to go back and get insurance with same companie, my plane had trippled in payment and got less of anything, wtf is that, i will pay the fine, its cheaper than health insurance.-
Sorry about the bogus link to Gatto's site.
Here's the real link:
Here's to real reform of the educational system, and not just re-arranging the deck chairs in Slavelandia.
The odds on real reform aren't good, but surely are possible if enough people wake up from the deliberate trance they've been schooled in.
Here we go again with with another assault on the minds of children in the name of education.
And as usual it's diversionary tactics to avoid the real problems in public education.
Unless the goal is to produce productive worker bees that can give the correct answer to specified questions.
If you've done any investigation into the history of the US public education system, you know that the Rockefeller Foundation's General Education Board was the prime driver in its creation.
Rockefeller’s foundation was about systematizing us.
In 1913, the Sixty-Second Congress created a commission to investigate the role of the Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations, and of other corporate families. After a year of testimony it concluded:
"The domination of men in whose hands the final control of a large part of American industry rests, is not limited to their employees, but is being rapidly extended to control the education and social services of the nation."
And so it still goes.
The real crisis, or shall we say, travesty in education goes far deeper than the lack of enough funding or the right testing.
The whole system has been intentionally designed to produce a compliant, pliable laboring class to supply the corporations with workers to generate wealth for the business and ruling classes.
The primary reason for the current deterioration of the system is directly related to the shifting of corporate production to other more compliant, more pliable, lower paid wage slaves in countries with social contracts similar to those desired by the 'compassionate' conservatives in this country.
Therefore, the corporations no longer have the need they originally did for legions of wage slaves in the US and funding for 'education' is gradually drying up.
The increasing debt and joblessness of today's college graduates is just another result of this current reality.
It's about time that the masses snapped out of the 'we just don't have enough money' trance and took a look at the real issues.
Folks, we're running out of time here.
If you're interested in more history and solutions to the real problems with public education take a look at John Taylor Gatto's website.
Gatto climaxed his teaching career as New York State Teacher of the Year after being named New York City Teacher of the Year on three occasions. He quit teaching on the OP ED page of the Wall Street Journal in 1991 while still New York State Teacher of the Year, claiming that he was no longer willing to hurt children.
A quote from Gatto:
'The new purpose of schooling—to serve business and government—could only be achieved efficiently by isolating children from the real world, with adults who themselves were isolated from the real world, and everyone in the confinement isolated from one another.
Only then could the necessary training in boredom and bewilderment begin. Such training is necessary to produce dependable consumers and dependent citizens who would always look for a teacher to tell them what to do in later life, even if that teacher was an ad man or television anchor.'
What say you folks do an article on the Un-Affordable Care Act or the Obama(Doesn't)Care Act?
This thing is a scam from top to bottom and deserves some hard-hitting journalism.
So how about it?
There's plenty of facts out there and a lot of skeptical people out there as well.
A friend who is an technical operator for Micron several years ago, had their entire fab fired. On their final paycheck Micron had a business card for a temp agency, 3/4's of them went there and found out that Micron had sent their files over and was willing to rehire every one from the fab, some even got a small pay raise. Unfortunately they lost they health insurance, 401k, stock options, and bonuses, and Micron saved money by only having to pay salaries not benefits. Local Greed is wonderful!
This is yet another sign of the times.
Temp agencies are right there along side the payday loan shops as fellow bottom feeders, parasitizing those on hard times, making their times even worse.
And companies like Bacardi are not unusual in their own parasitic use of workers.
In the current economy many employers are taking increasing advantage of even their full time employees.
The goal more and more seems to be to push the envelope on how much abuse employees will take.
It just goes to prove that without some sort of government regulation and legal consequences it isn't long before many companies will morph the work environment back to the slave like state of early industrialization.
We're clearly headed that way when you look at all the companies that have moved their factories to China, India and other third world countries, to take advantage of low wage , abused workers with zero rights.
Free market capitalism is a wonderful thing to behold isn't it?
As long as you're at the top of the heap of abusers and parasites.
Greed is Good and don't forget it!
When you look at the number of deluded people in the population, this small percentage is easily predictable.
"Even though we used technology to try to enhance the candour of respondents, we still see responses that are unrealistic," she said.
Ah technology, the be all and end all of legitamized science.
How about spending research dollars to find out something that's not so obvious?
Delusion is rampant in the culture.
To make that clear: Just ask people if they believe there's an economic recovery occurring.
fruit loop protesters
The folks running these rackets are the bottom feeders of the parasitic financial industry.
These payday, auto-title and installment loan traps have been spreading throughout the U.S. like a cancer, praying on the increasing number of poor in the Land of the Free (Enterprise).
The growth of this racket is just one more sign of the actual depressed economy, despite the fantasies pumped out by the bank/corporate controlled Main Scam Media.
Another sign that feudalism is returning with a vengeance to Slavelandia.
Greed is Good and don't forget it!
"the American public deserved a chance to see these issues determined by open courts"
Open Courts? He's got to be kidding.
Has Snowden really been paying attention?
The controllers have their claws into the Judicial system, just as they do every other system of control.
The Un-Patriot-ic Act virtually eliminated the 4th along with the 1st.
Judge, this isn't about trying to find terrorists.
It's about terrorizing the public.
The name of the game is control.
It looks like this judge needs to be reminded who he actually works for and it ain't the citizens of Slavelandia.
