I love this! This is going on in my house. I am a gen xer with a teenager and a 10 year old. I still love loud music and feel like I am 20. My daughter, 16, is wise beyond her years and has a better grasp on reality then I ever did in high school (I was too busy getting drunk and doing drugs) (got sober when I was 21)
I drag my 10 year old to concerts and he thinks I am crazy. I really feel that the gap between me and my kids is very small. I have a few rules, no under age drinking, no drugs, but I want my kids to also break the rules, the ceiling, and anything else they have to to have a great life. (But stay out of jail).
Violent butch homosexuals are attracted to military service, just as pedophiles are attracted to teaching and the Catholic clergy. That way they can fulfill their sick fantasies on the job. Young men, stay out of the military if you value your manhood.
Ahh the thin line between racism and facism is finally exposed. Thank you tea party. Go back to boston or england or wherever you heil from.
Im glad I'm not the only gen-x who hasn't changed attire.
Punks Not Dead. ;)
I am a Generation X'er going back to school. This means I am back in the trenches and witnessing first hand what millennials are like. On the one hand, its nice that they don't seem very affected by pop culture. They don't actually pay attention to Glee, MTV, Obama, etc. But on the other hand, they are very self absorbed. When I was in college my friends and I would talk about movies, music, love, books, etc. Millennials are able, without exaggeration, to simply talk about themselves for HOURS and HOURS. A bit scary.
Great article, as an Xer myself I too find an inversion of the generational gap between Millenials and us..they are much more focussed and 'serious' about things than we were and also alot 'older' than we are, I must admit at times I find this annoying..also I see how they relate to the Boomers alot more than they do to us...generation X is considered to be immature by both the Boomers and Millenials..we are the "Forever Young" generation ..I still wear skinny jeans and t-shirts and cant see myself with a more mature style as that is not me, and wont have it any other way.
"Muslims are enraged at the United States: Gitmo, drones, propping up dictators, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, the list goes on"
No they are not enraged at the US because of that. They are indoctrinated by the their Muslim religion to Kill infidels, which is ANYONE that is not a muslim.
If what you said was true, then our current president's trip down apology lane to the world, would have fixed the problem. But for some reason, that doesn't seem to be working.
Why do mass shootings happen, why do acts of terror happen? Because there are evil people in this world that cannot be reasoned with. When it happens our response must be swift and just. There is no reasoning or understanding them.
Why is more of it happening now? Because their is no fear in anyone fighting back to stop them. I only hope that America wakes up and starts fighting back. Like the people on the plane did that crashed in Penn. Or lately the passengers on the plane that tackled the NUT trying to open the door in flight.
Our national cluelessness begs the question...it does not 'beg the question'. It makes one wonder. Incorrect uses of language cause loss of credibility.
@Kyle This screed by Ted makes some good points about the fantasies that were created around Clinton, but the rest of it is just one of the many non-journalistic regurgitations of the fantasy conspiracy presented by the 911 Commission.
Here's hoping that since 2004 when Ted wrote this, he has done a tiny bit of actual journalistic investigation and uncovered the fact that there's been a whole lot of false information disseminated by the government concerning 911 and that the 911 Commission Report was a total whitewash, as stated by more than one of its members.
Some of the questions that come up around this event are obvious and others won't arise until one digs a bit deeper.
A good place to start is at the Pentagon.
This location presents obvious questions when one takes a look at the photos, while considering what passenger airliners are constructed of, how the Pentagon is structured and the fact that whatever hit the building close to ground level punched thru all of the rings of the Pentagon leaving a nicely shaped hole on the inner ring.
Once it dawns on you that there's no way in hell that this was done by an airliner then you'll be on your way to dozens of more discoveries as you look at the whole event that occurred on 911.
By the way, the part of the Pentagon that was hit, had been recently blast hardened. The probable cause of the damage to the Pentagon was a Cruise missile, which would be one of ours. OOPPS!
Another bit for you: hundreds of engineers and architects have petitioned the government for a new investigation, since they know without a doubt the the World Trade Center buildings did not collapse due to fires.
One last bit: Some very powerful people are very concerned about the public learning the truth about what happened or there wouldn't be the continued media blackout on the topic other than to re-enforce the official conspiracy theory, just as Ted did in his screed above.
Check out this website if you want to dig any deeper:
If only I could go back in time and change a lot of conspiracy events that lead up to 9/11. I would almost give up my soul to do that.
Dad was doing relief work as a pharmacist back then doing vacation relief for people in which 9/11 killed a lot of work for Dad as people stopped taking vacations well anyways the DAY BEFORE 9/11 a Muslim came into the store he was working at acting very strange indeed starting to disturb other people in the store.
He was doing some kind of weird dance and had a HUGE grin on his face giving Dad very bad vibes and he has seem some weird people come in before but not that give him such bad vibes. It was very off putting to say the least and the Muslim was starting to disturb other customers with his weird dances. Dad working their even considered calling the police over but the Muslim customer left on his own so Dad wasn't sure what to do about it.
I wonder if the police would've done anything if Dad had called to report the strange disturbance as it's the polices job to check up on suspicious people even before 9/11 simply for drug crime if nothing else.
Later on hindsight he wished he had called the police. Maybe the suspect would've been arrested for carrying illegal street drugs on him if nothing else.
Testing 1 2 3.
This is what wikipedia has to say, which contradicts much of what Mr. Rall seems to be suggesting:
At least 70% of American adults will ignore the warnings of the future and don't know about the McCarthy era think the movie 1984 was fiction instead of prediction which is was. What is needed is a full scale 20 million person peaceful protest/demonstration in front of the Whitehouse and on the steps of Congress. Dedicated people that won't leave DC until the leaders of Congress and the President resign.
I am becoming more disenchanted with Barack Obama as 'President Obama' on a daily basis. His policies and actions are extensions of what Cheney and 'Dubya' (no mistake in the order) started. He may be worse.
We are witnessing an erosion of our privacy and civil rights that we may never be able to get back once taken away shy of outright revolution.
Loved the article. Being a boomer, I was having some trouble labeling my two young adult children. I also have two genXers...don't you just love these labels?! I can readily ID the two older children, but their younger brother spent the best part of ten years in the Marine Corps which leads to a harder labeling. I am also a Marine Vet...Vietnam...so there are lots of things that he and I can talk about. But...as he finds his way forward in this "different place" he has to live in, he has began to exibit his millennial self. So to make a long story even longer...you have a handle on all of us! By all of us...I include my parents...they would laugh their asses off at your discription of them and boomers.
I've read much of Strauss and Howe as well as writings of Winograd and Haus. A lot of their research will tell you that Millennial feel they have the ability to make a change. I assume would mean their voices are being heard or they feel they can rewrite the system through sheer numbers in the age group. That seems to contribute to the lack of urgency on our part. (Disclosure: I'm a Millennial) We're comfortable with the rapid pace of change in social issues, new tech, the way we work, etc.
Sorry I just had to write to say I wonder if you realised you got the author's name wrong. It is William Strauss and Neil Howe.
Exactly, Well Said!
I really don't like being obvious guy (seriously) but whether this case is right is right or wrong, it pales compared to drone strikes (deaths) of US citizens abroad.
