Re: “"COPS" TV Show Crew Films Boise Police Department This Week

I guess when you break the law, engage in risky and self-destructive behavior, endanger other people by attempting to outrun the cops, and traffic in handguns and drugs, you've probably given up your right to privacy and are no longer in the running for "Citizen of the Year" award, huh?

If anything, a show like "Cops" does document the nonsense that the police have to put up with each day in the performance of their work.

Re: “Minerva's Breakdown

What horrible advice! There is a difference between occasionally looking at porn and a true porn addiction. A porn addiction negatively impacts your life and relationships. My ex's case was extreme. He would waste 6 hours of his Saturday masturbating to porn. It changed the way he acted and the way he treated me. It also led to sexual dysfunction (occasional erectile dysfunction and inability to climax). I had no problems with porn until I saw the effect and the hold it had on him. Some men seriously become more interested in porn than in the real thing, and I'm sorry--that is anything but normal and healthy.

Re: “Minerva's Breakdown

Wow, I am surprised that such belief still exists after the plethora of psychological research currently available about the devastating effects of porn on individuals and relationships. PLEASE do not take to heart this uniformed advice. Yes, accept your partner fully for who he is, love him unconditionally, but you do not need to accept his unfaithful, harmful and potentially addictive behavior. Just because pornography is widespread does not mean it is harmless. Please talk to a therapist, an opinion column is not the best place to get sound help or advice for something like this. Best wishes to you.

Re: “UPDATE: Humane Society Offers $10,000 Reward for Information on Mutilated Pony in Minidoka County

So, so sad for this defenseless, loving, joyful, caring pony towards all who wanted to pet him. Let us try to remember the good times the family had. I worked for 4 years 40-60 hours a week to get Joan's Law passed in NJ and keep Joan's torturerer and killer behind bars. What kept me going was thinking, this could be my child. I believe, Joan did for my daughter as I did for her. Thank God it was an "ALMOST" . NY only passed it when Pataki was running for reelection. I called his office at least 20 times in the previous years. Then, BIG fanfare.
God will judge us not just how we treat each other, but how we cared for all of his creatures. This caused me so much sadness and sickness of heart. What kind of person births and maybe raises such monsters???? The excuse that they maybe had an abusive childhood holds no water with me since no one knows what goes on behind closed doors and not everyone turns out "sick in the head and heart"..
Lawmakers, get off of your a...es. The next victim could be your relative.

Re: “"COPS" TV Show Crew Films Boise Police Department This Week

I can't wait to see poor people and others with wrecked lives humiliated on television! Hooray for domestic-abuse-as-entertainment and making fun of alcoholics and addicts with serious issues and in need of help being caught on camera for my enjoyment! Thanks COPS for making criminals look like characters instead of real people with real problems (and by real I don't mean REALITY T.V.)

Re: “Home Away from Home

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Only working together, can we breathe free. We are of one planet and one people.

Re: “UPDATE: Arbiter Declines Advertising from Creationist Groups, Issues Statement

I see no reason why a newspaper should not run advertisements from religious "pseudoscience snake oil salesmen" when they run ads for pseudoscience snake oil all the time -- "investment" counselors, dubious charities, the Idaho Lottery, political PACs, copper "healing bracelets" that emit electromagnetic waves, walk-a-thons that never "cure" anything, cut-rate Viagra from Mexico, and personal ads from convicted felons in the state pen.

College campuses are fearless bastions of free thought and expression... as long as you tow the party line. Alternative viewpoints will be vigorously censored!

Re: “UPDATE: Christian Group Cries Foul When Boise State Student Newspaper Says 'No' to Ad For Creationism Event

"Yes, a newspaper has a right to turn down an ad. But it also has an obligation to promote the free flow of ideas, many of them controversial or unpopular."

No, no newspaper nor any other media outlet has any obligation of any kind to promote bogus claims made by snake oil salesmen. This would be like saying that a newspaper has an obligation to promote any quack that comes along, which is absurd. For example, and in fact, it would be outright irresponsible for a newspaper to promote homeopathy as a medical cure. It would be irresponsible for a newspaper to promote the *religious fundamentalist* doctrine that the universe and the earth didn't exist more than about 6,000 years ago as *science*. It isn't science. At all. It isn't scientifically controversial. At all. As a scientific idea, it literally has not existed in science for over two hundred years ago, because the idea was scientifically falsified in geology over two hundred years ago.

Re: “Idahoans Gather at Capitol in Support of Refugees

Why is it hateful to ask the folks protesting to each sponsor a refugee/family for a year before bringing them here? Put your actions where your words are and others might believe you're serious instead of another type of user.

Re: “Idaho Supreme Court Ruling Means End of Historical Horse Racing

How many people got laid off last year at about the same time? (You know, near the end of the track racing season.) And the year before that? I'm guessing that the announcement about layoffs was more a convenient coincidence than a related event. I guess we'll see if the ponies show up next spring.

If there aren't enough admission-paying citizens interested in watching horse racing any more, perhaps the industry is destined to go the way of buggy whips and penny arcades. Progress!

(That said... I don't understand why "historical racing slot machines" are somehow more immoral than the state-run lottery. Both are forms of gambling, and both victimize the people who can least afford to participate.)

Because refusing to run ads by pseudoscience snake oil salesmen is such a bad idea.

Sure, this is exactly what we would expect creationist snake oil salesmen to say.

Re: “UPDATE: Les Bois Park Announces End of Historic Horse Racing, 80 Layoffs

What is wrong with this State? every other state that has this type of gaming can see the increased revenue that comes with it. This revenue is put directly back into our state and local government. It helps with a number of programs to provide much needed services. I for one have no problem with the machines that were in the Les Bois race track. I went there often as an entertainment option to movies and dinner, ect. I found the conditions very clean and very friendly, never once did I encounter a bad experience.

Let's see how this segment of COPS plays out lol! I have respect for those officers who hold up to their pledge but some in Boise are renegade and to give them the lime light is only going to make them put on a show.

Re: “A Sustainable Boise

Sustainable Development is an ideology, based in radical environmentalism and the belief in Global Warming, that seeks to steal freedom stealthily from unsuspecting citizens. Take the theory of Global Warming. no matter that it has technically and scientifically failed by the standards of the Scientific Method, its believers have weaponized it to compel the public into its bidding. The original hypothesis was that Co2 poured into the atmosphere will cause a greenhouse effect and warm the planet. Reality: nearly 2 decades of flatlined global temperatures, at a time when record amounts of Co2 were poured into the atmosphere. Result of experiment: The theory of Global Warming has utterly failed, if this were about true science there would be no mention of it but it's not about science, it's about control from the top and religion from the bottom. So, it follows that everything based in the bad science of Global Warming, like Sustainable Development, is fundamentally flawed and should be denied and its proponents rejected at the ballot box. Oh yeah, I forgot, Sustainable Development IS Agenda 21….here is the UN’s website that details how they are exactly the same bad thing.

Achd isn't closing the lanes on the I-84, ITD is. ACHD is just warning motorists that their system will be impacted by ITD's decision.
