Re: “Killing Truth

Did you check with Zach before this rant? He does have a "newspaper" to run and I am sure there are expenses. This is political "science" Cope . . .not some kind of quest for truth justice. Stick to the thing your readers can understand . . .like same pee pee's . . .black vs white . . .and simple verbage like "hate" or "equality". None of your readers know who the "John Birch Society" is and probably don't even know "Kennedy". You sound like some old fart from the 1950's. Go back to that tiny little world in between msnbc and FOX, wade around, and try not to get your ankles wet . . .sweetie.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

From above: "Vaccine preventable diseases do not exist."

HAHAHAHAHAH! Have you every heard of Smallpox? Tetanus? Pertussis? Oh my god, pertussis - sure, as an adult, you can handle a bit of coughing, but an infant with pertussis is going to the hospital. The pertussis vaccine is not perfect, but it has saved countless lives. I repeat - vaccines have worked so well, we forgot how bad the diseases they prevent are.

Re: “City: No Truth to Rumor of October 1 Deadline to Cooper Court Tent City

As someone who has found themselves homeless due to a work related injury, that the State Insurance Fund felt beneficial to dispute, I can tell you first hand what the conditions are like.
First off, this situation is a failure of our community, our government and capitalism as a whole.
Secondly, the drug issue is a misnomer, without money (homeless have very little money) drugs are unavailable. Pot, heroin and other drugs are costly, a luxury for those who have money. Poor people can't afford such luxuries. Alcohol on the other hand is cheep and easy to acquire.
Thirdly, there are very few resources for those who find themselves in the state that I am in. I have crushed and herniated disks in my lower back. I am in pain constantly. Without money, no doctor will help, no pharmacy will fill a pain prescription.

Four years ago, I ran for mayor of Boise with the homeless issue as part of my platform. It was my hope to take some of the property the city owns to build micro housing/ treatment centers/ job skills training to address this issue head on, increasing property tax on the banks to pay for it.

Re: “Tour de Fat Boise

For such a beautiful sport, it will ALWAYS get ruined by a few (or many) people who find it better to cheat. If you’ve had a car since you first grasped your driving licence, then the idea of commuting on a bike to work can seem a little daunting. You probably haven’t thought about being safe on the road since you passed your cycling proficiency test back when you were 10 years old, in which time you’ve been more concerned with your car’s MPG than with advancements in bike technology. You certainly don’t spend too much time worrying about signalling in a car or being squashed to the kerb either. For whatever reason, you’ve decided to bike to work. Maybe you’ve been enticed in by a tax free bike on the cycle to work scheme, or maybe you just want to burn fat, not your hard earned money on fuel.

How about hiring an actual patient as an advocate? This job would entail helping other patients navigate the system along with working with the admin in creating a patient centered environment.

Re: “U of I Students Work on Designs for Homeless Housing

Great article, Harrison. It should be pointed out that U of I is agnostic on the Cooper Court or homeless coordination; this was merely a student exercise in addressing the most basic human needs for personal safety and protection from the elements through design. These concepts could easily be adapted to provide shelter for any internally displaced individuals or families, whether as a cause of natural or economic factors.

There are many approaches to providing housing and shelter options, the city is moving forward on a few fronts, and the Boise Alternative Shelter Cooperative (http://www.basc.space) is exploring a model well established and supported in Eugene, OR by http://www.squareonevillages.org.

Great effort by the architecture students; they were able to tour Coopers Court and interview residents, some of whom were able to see the presentation and results of those interviews. Good luck to everyone involved.

Re: “Best Local Bike Shop

It's a shame that Boise Weekly put "best local bike shop" in the "Sports and Recreation" category.

While I s'pose a sizable percentage of the population (apparently including BW) views bikes as "toys" for their recreational hobbies and whatnot, a growing percentage views them as ALSO being transportation. A bicycle has been my transportation - albeit a very enjoyable form of transportation - for coming up 30 years. So I went looking for bike shop under "Goods and Services." (Boise Bicycle Project is a good pick, as are George's and Idaho Mountain Touring.)

Re: “Killing Truth

Um, you do realize the president of the John Birch Society is Catholic, right? How did this drivel ever make it past an editor? Or was that past of your fairy tell as well? By the way, climate change is real, man-made climate change is the hoax. You're certainly right about a culture built on lies. The man-made climate change hoax is exhibit A.

Re: “Federal Judge Dismisses Boise Homeless Camping Ordinance Lawsuit

As someone who is homeless, due to no real fault of my own (injured on the job and having to sue for compensation) and as the only person who ran against Mr. Bieter in the last election cycle for Boise's city mayor, I can attest wholeheartedly to this statement and I quote "Efforts on behalf of those in our community who are experiencing homelessness are concrete."

Yes, concrete is the right word for it. It describes very well the unmalleability of the city to actually address the hundreds of homeless in the city rather than making them pariah and dependent on overtaxed social services and it speaks of the hardheadedness of the city leaders who continue to kick this issue down the road, along with every life that has to experience these harsh conditions. Perhaps no citations were issued but folks still get harassed and the fact that I am seeing young people and children at the shelters speaks to me of an absolute failure of our city, our community and our personal moral turpitude.

The fact that you are all clearly brainwashed and don't see your ridiculous statements about professionalism is mind boggling. Wake up, folks. It's a new year, not 1955. We don't need to have short hair in order to be considered professional.

@Jeremy D Poland.
What the shit is wrong with you? Are you seriously comparing man buns with something as serious as segregation?

Would man buns be allowed if they had a garment to put over them? Order your MANLY BUNS GARMANTLY " on line at stickyfingers.orgreligion/ tidingstomuch. Or at a Desseret or Victor Secrets store near you.
