Re: “Idaho Health Insurance Exchange: Fourth-Highest Participation in Nation

I love it!! This adds to the livability of our state. Come on Idaho!! Let's create a new vision for a livable state. Instead of screaming, Personal Freedom, think about how do we create a culture that is fair and equitagble for all.

Re: “The Art of War and Wilderness

Given the push by greedy entrepreneurs to turn everything into a commodity, it’s inevitable that the wild lands will ultimately be sold off to the highest bidder and/or those with the most political clout.

Many motorized and mechanized individuals end up willing accomplices in this progressive destruction of wild lands, by demanding their temporary access to these pristine areas, and leaving a scarred landscape and traumatized wildlife behind.

Though some -- certainly not all -- mountain bikers apparently view our public lands as outdoor gyms, that is not their function. Nor is a wild place a metaphorical pie to be divvied up among “user groups” or local “stakeholders,” to use federal bureaucratese. When mechanized mountain bikers demand access to proposed and designated wilderness, they fail to understand that if they succeed, owners of unimagined future contraptions will certainly demand equal treatment.

Backcountry biking damages the land. By allowing this to proliferate in roadless areas, the Forest Service nourishes yet another anti-wilderness constituency. A cynic might suggest that’s no accident.

The authors of the Wilderness Act would be appalled at the Forest Service’s eagerness to mollify every recreation group that decides its particular form of recreation trumps all else.

Re: “Argus Observer: Study Indicates Ontario Is Oregon's Least Safe City

Total agreement about police car presence! I don't see how officers walking a lot would work however. The town is too spread out. Right in front of my house I've seen a lot more speeders since the budget cutbacks. I know I don't pay a lot of taxes direct to the city but hope i can still say i am a firm believer when you cut police or education budget there is a significant and all too often quick corillation between cuts and what you can expect from them. I know money without effort doesn't solve everything but both are needed. As much as i love privacy, and a bit might be cuz i'm older I think people shouldn't be too scared of of other people calling them a "cop caller" when the time is needed.

Re: “Idaho Conservation League and Outdoor Alliance Push for Boulder-White Clouds Monument

These guys are beating a dead horse. They've been at it for 2 years now, and have no more supporters now than they had in the first month. The Wilderness Bills (CIEDRA, and it's current version SNRA+) provide the highest level of protection possible to the core, alpine areas, while preserving traditional uses in areas that can withstand them.

The Wilderness Bill currently before Congress has been crafted through years of public meetings and transparent compromises, and is now supported by the County Commissioners in BOTH Blaine and Custer Counties, as well as real environmentalists (as opposed to these guys, who are paid lobbyists for the recreation equipment and industrial tourism industries).

Please do not be deceived by these charlatans. Wilderness designation by Congress is what this beautiful area deserves - nothing less - and certainly should not be left to the closed-door deals of these types in a National Monument fiasco.

Re: “Foreign Policy Debate Erupts Within GOP

Media lies! Why the misinformation? Paul, Cruz, and Rubio are NOT the only Republican candidates who have formally declared they will run. There are already OVER 50 declared Republican candidates in a field of nearly 300 candidates total. The truth is in black and white on the official FEC (Federal Election Commission) site. The media controls your awareness of the truth, but only if YOU allow it. Go to the source and get the truth, not the rich-get-richer story the media wants you to believe:

Re: “Lewiston Tribune: Whooping Cough Break-Out in Idaho County

I'm a grandma. It was my grandfather--so we are going back to at least the 1920s here--who decided that vaccines weren't worth the risk. As a survivor of measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis and very likely polio (a very mild illness in over 99%) I am not at all convinced that our current vaccine schedule is beneficial for the tiny recipients.

Re: “E-Cig Use Among Youth Prompts New Calls to Speed Regulation

As a parent, I'm absolutely horrified that youth smoking has plummeted to the lowest levels ever recorded, and that more and more young people (many of whom would otherwise have wound up as lifelong smokers) are foregoing cigarettes in favor of an alternative that poses no demonstrable risk to their health whatsoever.

We simply must put a stop to this!

Re: “Video: Shrine Circus Met With Protests... Again

Watcher points out that the animals used in circus acts to not normally or willingly stand on their heads, jump through hoops, or ride tiny bicycles. Human Shriners, however, have a parade where they choose--without the threat of punishment or fear of deprivation--to do exactly those and many other stupid and inane things right out in public--right on the street.

Maybe they should resurrect the freak shows of the past and force Shriners to tour from town to town doing their asinine parade acts for money to help care for and rehabilitate circus animals. "Step right up folks! See Jo-Jo the mutant Shriner in his tassled fez. He walks, he talks, he crawls on his belly like a reptile!"

Re: “Mr. Cope's Cave: Official State Dumbshit: WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

I love how those who "protect the life" of a fetus for God will allow live children to die because God wanted them to die. Geez. Can't their be multiple winners? And, throw Otter into the mix for vetoing the Cannabis Law for sick children. There is a theme here - Republicans don't like children but they love fetuses.

Re: “Video: Shrine Circus Met With Protests... Again

Although the issues regarding circus animal cruelty have gained much-needed attention in recent years, circus animals still suffer from lives of prison-like confinement, social deprivation and violent methods of training.

There has been a strong focus on the abuse of elephants for several decades, with Ringling Bros. finally agreeing to stop using them in their circus acts, but similar abuse still exists for the remaining animals used by Ringling and many other circuses.

Circus animals do not willingly stand on their heads, jump through rings of fire, or ride bicycles. They don’t perform these tricks because they want to and they don’t do any of these meaningless acts in their natural habitat. The ONLY reason circus animals perform is because they are scared of what will happen to them if they don’t.

The circus would like people to think that these intelligent and sentient creatures perform because they are positively reinforced with food, praise etc. There is no such thing as positive reinforcement for animals in the circus - only varying levels of punishment, neglect, and deprivation.

It’s good to see more people waking up to this abuse, but unfortunately most are still willfully ignorant about this horrific situation.…

Re: “Idaho Assisted Living Facility, Targeted in Prior Investigation, Has License Reinstated

This is one of those news stories that often ends up excluded or on page 59 since it's just a bunch of old farts who have been put out to pasture.

And like everything else now, these assisted living setups have been targeted by greedy entrepreneurs looking to make a killing off guilt ridden relatives and senile old folks.

Nursing homes have a long notorious history of abusing their occupants in a myriad number of ways in order to cream off as much profit as possible.

With an increasing number of Americans living longer, assisted living investors and operators realized they had a virtually unregulated goldmine on their hands, and in characteristic fashion, they’ve milked these operations with delight.

Although some states don’t allow medical care in these facilities, a recent study by Johns Hopkins University researchers found that more than 2/3 of residents are suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.

The whole Memory Care thing is just an up-charge marketing gimmick to appeal to families of elderly people they can no longer care for, while staff members are generally not well-trained to do dementia care.

This article just scratches the surface:…

Re: “UPDATE: Babies, Bathwater and Cannabis Oil

If he thinks something that is safe for child consumption is a danger to the public. Then WHY THE HELL are drugs like oxycontin, codiene, hydrocodone, benzodiazepines, and Ritalin, still perfectly legal? People who take those are WAY more susceptible to abuse them, become addicted, overdose, distribute, and/or die on. And not to mention that just about anyone with insurance can get some form of these drugs and doctors, more often than not, will over-prescribe. If "Butcher" even cared the slightest about Idahoans health and safety he would have done the same with half the pills on the market today. But why would he speak out against those companies when they are the ones financing his corrupt ass.

Re: “Idaho Jobless Rate Drops Again, Now at 3.8 Percent

Come on now!

How often do we have to be subjected to this fallacious crap, produced by the masters-of-bull to lull the sheep into complacency?

This is just wasted news-space unless the goal is to assist the manipulators in their nefarious plan to fool the public into taking on more debt, while the banking parasites siphon off increasing amounts of wealth.

What say we shoot for an ’alternative’ viewpoint to the mainstream doctored statistics and have a feature that focuses on the actual lies, damned lies and statistics that this sort of ‘news’ article puts forward as valid information for public consumption?

As a suggestion, the alternative news item might start out with something like “Here they go again with manipulated employment statistics to fool the good citizens of Idaho one more time………”

And another suggestion is for the news crew to spend a few minutes looking at in order to get an idea how far off the mark these phony employment statistics are.

If the news staff is already aware how fallacious these statistics are, then how about adding an emoticon to the news item that basically conveys ‘You’re got to be shi**ing me, this is bull****!”

There is no authenticity to any argument that begins with "scientists say this" or "scientists say that". Those are just phrases that political people (who are not scientists) use when shouting "is NOT" seems to be loosing the argument to the other side shouting "is TOO"!
