Re: “Once in a Lifetime

Respectfully, professor, you must never have seen a total eclipse! A 90% partial eclipse is by NO MEANS anything CLOSE to seeing the full glory of totality. Boise is NOT a good place to see this eclipse. Please, everyone reading this article - get north into the path. Lots of great info on this is available on the various sites quoted in the comments, including

YOU MUST BE IN THE PATH of totality to see all the wonder of a total eclipse. please do NOT stay in Boise, or you will wonder what all the fuss was about - and you will have missed the show! Get north INTO the path! No joke...

Oh yes, and the filters you need in order to safely view the partial phases of the eclipse cost no more than a dollar or so. Get them now!

Also, this year's total solar eclipse will not be the first in Idaho in 99 years. The last one was in February, 1979. The 1918 eclipse was the last one to go across the entire country from Pacific to Atlantic coasts.

From the northernmost tip of Craters of the Moon, totality will last 1 min. 14 sec. Traveling a bit further north, to the center line, will increase the time of totality by 80%.

Re: “Climate Strange: Idaho's Tug of War on Climate Change

Carbon Fraud aptly named. The atmosphere is not analogous to an actual "greenhouse." It is a metaphor for what happens in a system that can trap heat, like a greenhouse. The earth's troposphere is 5 - 9 mi thick, not 8ft. The gases' (CO2, O2, N2, H2O, etc) interactions with solar radiation and earth's thermal radiation is much different in an 8ft high than in a 5-9 mi high box. It is also different at extreme concentration differences. Please show us the experimental data you are citing and the extrapolations used to compensate for the different concentrations, geometric differences, surface difference, effects of the glass or other material used for the enclosure, etc. Without this information, you're just being obtuse and blowing hot air. And contrary to Mick's belief, the 2nd Law of Thermo does not apply to a open system like our atmsophere.

Re: “Idaho Senate Tangles With Controversial 'Faith Healing' Bill

The only place this is controversial is in the legislature, most folks in Idaho think it's crazy to kill or maim children as a sacrifice to a god. And these are the same people so worried about Sharia law.

Re: “Idaho Senate Tangles With Controversial 'Faith Healing' Bill

It is appalling that these politicians allow their personal religious beliefs regarding the power of prayer to dictate the law. If you place your hand in a pot of boiling water, you will get burned. No amount of prayer will alter that fact. However, this debate is not about the power of prayer vs. modern medicine. It is about the basic right of a child to be allowed free access to both and not be denied either. The fact that so many lawmakers cannot make that distinction is the heart of the matter.

I want to know why Al Gore, patron saint of the environmental movement in the US Congress and later on VEEP, just bought his SECOND mansion on the beaches of Monte Cito, California, where you would expect the rising seas to swallow up his new investment.…

Fact: Anthropogenic CO2 = 0.0015% of the Atmosphere. Myth: 0.0015% of the atmosphere can control the average temperature of the Atmosphere and the Oceans violating the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Fact: The Sun Controls the Climate because the Sun Controls both the H20 and Carbon cycles, Dummies, and the PDO controls western wildfire frequency more than any other climate variable. Fact:You've been brainwashed. Fact:Before you unload on me, I never vote Repulsican and I think tRump is part of the Russian Mafia and should be impeached for his criminal activities.

Re: “UPDATE: Idaho Senate Kills 'Faith Healing' Bill, 11-24

Check the language on the bills you support. The media has relayed this inaccurately. SB1182 was not about faith-healing, but criminalizing parents who choose alternatives to conventional care. These are not child abusers, they are loving parents who want what's best for their children and have a different idea of what that means. Let that sink in...

We are on a slippery slope.

What about allergies or life-threatening conditions that preclude a drug or medical treatment? What if a doctor oversteps parental consent and treats the child with something toxic or harmful? Do we turn our heads because "doctors know best"? I hope we are smarter and capable recognizing of this serious ethics violation.

Until people see through the media's inaccurate information, we will continue hearing these mis-truths and being lied to about who's controlling our politicians (corporations) and our children will suffer.

Some children who receive alternative medical treatments become ill and die, as do some who receive conventional care. Why punish one over the other? Why isn't the medical industry or pharmaceutical companies prosecuted for killing and harming children with drugs, vaccines, and procedures?

Meanwhile, parents who choose alternatives will be made an example of prosecuted. Unacceptable!

If CO2 isn't the culprit, great, but if CO2 is causing the earth to warm so rapidly, it's probably too late to prevent the predicted catastrophes.

Jon - I am truly mystified as to how you think addressing climate change would line my own pockets. It is the fossil fuel industry that is flooding politicians with campaign donations, and I can assure you they are not donating to my campaign.

Re: “Once in a Lifetime

I'd like to make a correction. While Boise experiences a 99% partial eclipse, that city is NOT inside the path of totality, the only area you can witness nature's greatest sight. Boise is very close to totality, so all Boiseans are urged to take a short drive on I-84 inside the path of totality. You will never regret doing so.

Re: “Once in a Lifetime

The Total Eclipse of the Sun is a once in a lifetime opportunity to stimulate Americans to come together in their communities and learn about science and the workings of the universe.

Do you think it is possible for environmental groups across America to work together to help stimulate community discussions between students, teachers, family and friends about how to understand and communicate the science behind environmental issues? Here is an idea for a 7 generation project to kickstart this effort - starting with Earth Day and the National Marches For Science, April 22 and continuing on through the total Eclipse of the Sun on August 21 and into the long range future.…

Re: “Climate Strange: Idaho's Tug of War on Climate Change

AGW is nothing but FRAUD only the mentally challenged believe in.

A simple greenhouse test:

- 20x20x8' greenhouse has 3,200 cubic feet
- The amount of CO2 is 1.28 cubic feet
- Does any grown sane adult honestly believe adding or removing 1 cubic foot of CO2 from the greenhouse is going to magically change the temperature by 2C?

If this was true why would anyone need to pay for energy to heat their house? All they would need to do is put a clear bubble on their roof and fill it with 100% CO2.

- The amount of CO2 increase since 1960 is equal to 7x7x7" in the greenhouse. Does anyone think this makes a difference?

- The fact is 224 cubic feet of CO2 is required to make the greenhouse temperature rise by 1C, about 70,000 PPM.

MSM and governments are scam artists, brainwashing the ignorant masses with fairy tales while they are taxed into oblivion.

Re: “Idaho Senate Tangles With Controversial 'Faith Healing' Bill

When did ignorance become a vaunted virtue? Intercessionary prayer has been scientifically proven to NOT have any influence on the outcome of a sick person's health. I'm very very vexed that fairy tales are still influencing anything in public life. Just say NO to theocracy. A person's faith is between themselves and their mythical being - it should never be the basis of public policy. If you let your child suffer and/or die because: Jesus. You have committed child abuse and/or murder.

Re: “UPDATE: Idaho Senate Kills 'Faith Healing' Bill, 11-24

Interesting that so many Idaho politicians support parents choosing to not purchase health insurance, and choosing to avoid Dr. & hospital fees by flat out allowing their children to die.
At the same time if a parent chooses to use a highly effective but illegal marijuana based medicine, even if claiming a religious basis for the use of the marijuana based medicine, then that parent is subject to the full force of the law. So, a 'religious' parent can pray in one hand and poop in the other and get poop every time but an effective choice offends the sensibilities of our elected officials.
