Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

The anti-vaccination movement started in the late 1700s with resistance to compulsory vaccination in the UK. Andrew Wakefield's article in 1998 was very much a late-comer with peer-reviewed articles linking vaccination to autism since the early 1900s - well before there was a word for this spectrum and it was referred to as post-vaccinal encephalitis.

Since no vaccine can convey lifelong immunity nor can it stop fully-vaccinated individuals from either contracting or spreading the diseases they are vaccinated against, it is foolish to say that people have to be vaccinated to eradicate diseases.

To quote Mahatma Ghandi:

Vaccination is a barbarous practice and one of the most fatal of all the delusions current in our time.

Conscientious objectors to vaccination should stand alone, if need be, against the whole world, in defense of their conviction.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

Before George Prentice's hatchet job on Vaccination Liberation, I was warning that BW is NOT an "alternative" publication but is as "corporate" as the Statesman.

Research shows that a year ago senior CDC researcher Dr. Wm. Thompson became whistleblower re a CDC research project showing Merck's MMR vaccine increased the risk of autism in black boys by 300%. He and his colleagues were forced to lie about this by their bosses--including CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding who, according to Reuters, left CDC for a job at Merck as head of their $5 billion vaccine division.

Robert Kennedy, Jr., has been vocal regarding the news media's censorship of this, plus of the two Merck scientists-turned-whisteblowers charging fraud at Merck re the effectiveness of the MMR vaccine. That case is in the courts.

In one of his books, Nobel laureate Linus Pauling wrote that in 1935 Dr. Claus Jungblut, Columbia University, found that high doses of vitamin C "inactivates poliomyelitis virus and destroys its power of causing paralysis...." Plus, vitamin C works against "all bacterial and viral diseases... ."

Vaccination is one of the greatest frauds ever foisted on the public--NOTHING to do with science; EVERYTHING to do with $$$$$$$.

Re: “Anti-Vaxx to the Max

If you actually read about the polio vaccine being the leading cause, it is a type of vaccine only used in third world countries, anymore. Most developed countries moved away from it in 2000.

Vaccines are not perfect, by any means. But people forget that Iron Lungs used to be an industry that was killed off due to vaccination. It is easy to demonize vaccines when, we as a species, have the "it could never happen to me" brain block when it comes to these illnesses.

Re: “Video: Idaho School Wants Cheerleaders to Cover Up

Most schools have some form of dress code and simply being a cheerleader shouldn't excuse you from it. If the cheerleading costume doesn't meet the minimum dress code requirement, why should it be allowed in the classroom? And the comment about "Spanx" being adequate is a little like saying, "hey, they have panties on under their skirts, so it's ok". Also saying that this is like telling the fb players they have to wear a skirt under their jerseys doesn't even begin to make sense. I also don't think the issue is about "knee caps" as the 1st commenter suggests, it's about girls going to school with their butts and other private anatomical parts being exposed, which is inappropriate and unnecessary.

Re: “Video: Coeur d'Alene High School Bans Bare Shoulders, Spaghetti Straps From Homecoming Dance

Sounds like the Administration is funded from the church. Odd since this is a publicly funded school. Breathlizer for the Highschool Homecoming dance?? Are you serious?? Or are you just implying that all kids are intoxicated when attending school functions and the school wants to verify this?

Re: “Constitutional Carry Gun Rallies Set for Across Idaho

I'm not sure it's accurate to portray Maine as a "Northeast liberal bastion," despite it trending Democratic in most recent elections.

For years it was one of the two most Republican states in the union. Traditionally it has been a very blue collar, working class society of loggers, fishermen, ship builders, most of whom hunt and fish. It's got a very conservative Republican governor. It's isolated, independent, and inward-looking. And it's a very poor state compared to most eastern states, the poorest in New England.

In many ways, not unlike … Idaho.

Re: “Twin Falls Legislator Pushes Back Against Refugee Resettlement

As a former combat vet who has been in these countries, I think it's easy for those of you sit in comfort, as you say, and forget what is really going on and what they are brining in with them. Some are good people and then there are those which you fail to acknowledge, because you are scared, that will do harm. You can bad mouth me all you want but unless you have been in my boots on the ground in their country and see what has been going on then not one person here has any weight and lack knowledge. It's best to close your mouths and experience this essay people of war torn countries. You have become soft and weak and very vulnerable to the threat being brought in. Laugh as you will but you do not have my experience in first person with any of these people.

I say "thank you" to the Gods of journalism that Hartgen is no longer the publisher of the Times News, he turned a fairly moderate paper into a right-wing nightmare of hyperbole and bullshit.

I have to agree with the posts here. I remember polio and other kiddie diseases of the past. Avoiding vaccines is absolutely foolish.

Any child not current on their vaccinations should not be allowed in public school. They should be home-schooled to protect themselves from exposure and to protect the other children.

Re: “Julie VanOrden

Why is educating our young people such a LOW priority in Idaho? Of the 50 states Idaho ranks #49 in terms of funding for education. Only 10% of high school graduates in Idaho later graduate from college. If our young people are not adequately educated how are they to compete in the national and global market place? The US is falling behind Asian and European countries in education. How are we to compete against a better educated and more qualified work force in the global economy? A 4-day school week is UNACCEPTABLE and we expect more for our students. If you are unwilling to advocate for education then perhaps you are not the right person for the job of representing Idaho voters on the House Education Committee. There is NO advantage to a 4-day school week and it is UNACCEPTABLE for Idaho's students and Idaho voters.

Re: “Video: Idaho School Wants Cheerleaders to Cover Up

As a cheerleader's uniform, you already wear "spanks" which is like a spandex bottom brief. So now they're expected to cover their whole legs?! I was a cheerleader in Cascade High School ten years ago and we weren't allowed to get pleated skirts for our uniforms (looks like the same case sadly for Post Falls) because they "showed too much" during performances... this is just too far, Idaho! As someone who grew up throughout grade school in Boise and kicked out numerous times for shoulder straps not as wide as "two fingers", I am ashamed that my home state still has these issues a decade and more later.

Re: “Twin Falls Legislator Pushes Back Against Refugee Resettlement

I think that Steve Hartgen should research a little what some of these people have endured. They are not seeking refuge for economic reasons, they are seeking it because they have been beaten and watched someone break the bones in their children, seen their homes burnt to the ground and watched as their wives are raped. The people that are allowed to come here have had exhaustive back ground checks done and I bet would do their utmost best to integrate themselves into our society. Do your homework and then come back and tell us how these people do not deserve our help.
