Sounds like you know your stuff. If I were to send you an MP3 file, would you be able to tell me the celeb voices featured?
this guy is completely loose butthole
When Josh Gross laughs at "King of the Hill," is he "laughing for the right reaons"? Or, more likely- perhaps he doesn't laugh at all, because he is a dour, self-absorbed, humorless twit?
Lawyer jokes are the white professional equivalent of the Nuremburg Rallys.
LIFE IS HARD :(
give me a fucking break
The show makes fun of more then just hipsters. why does everyone keep thinking this show is all about hipsters. There are so many more stereotypes then hipsters the show takes aim at making fun of; annoying feminist, yuppie couples, artists, vegans, animal activists, montessori parents. This is why the show is called Portlandia and not Hipsterville, USA.
Another thing, if the author of the article did any analyzing of the show in relation to the creators, Carrie and Fred, they'd realize they are only making fun of themselves.
I need a list of right reasons ( any number will do ) to laugh at this show. I'll cross check against my own lengthy list. If I find any differences, to whom should I report this? I'm outraged!...I think. YEP! I just checked again - still outraged!
I'm addicted.... already checking blogs for theory discussion. It's a nice distraction from the sad mundane January we've been dealt.
gawker is white privilege
there is no functional difference between gawker itself and white privilege
This is hilarious- is there seriously nothing more important going on in the world to write about? How small is your life that this is the best topic you could think of writing about? Hopefully it's meant to be ironic?
This is exactly the kind of review we'd expect from SOME HIPSTER SCUM! GO BACK TO PORTLAND WITH THE REST OF THE HIPSTERS, HIPSTER!
This guy is just jealous he's not as clever of a writer.
Someone from Idaho has no place talking about anything related to Portland, Oregon, or any other part of the Pacific NW. Thanks.
effective media challenges the recipient's sensibility, the fact that Portlandia does such by exaggerating some truths makes it a success
Aah, dude, you're taking the show much too serious. Much. Does it hit close to home for you?
It's humor. What don't you get about that? Racist, are you kidding me. According to your logic all satire is rooted in hate. And that's plain ridiculous.
I'm laughing at the show. and I don't feel bad for it. And I refuse to think much about it.
If Gross thinks these are "hateable characters", then he needs to look inside his own psyche and not analyze others. I find the characters endearing and likeable. I have many friends who are like them. The show does exaggerate for effect, but that is a necessary part of this kind of satire.
The journey looking for the natal roots of the chicken the couple is going to eat stuck me as so right on target because the day before I saw it I had a meal in which the waiter told me the pedigree of the pork I was going to have, its, name, age, farm of origin, parent's names, and a lot of other information I really didn't need to enjoy the item.
Another example, I have lost friends in Portland who chose their own veganism rather than have a friend who likes a hamburger every once in a while, but most of my vegan friends accept me for who I am and vice versa. We still get to mock each other, like Portlandia does about this frequent subject.
I lived in Austin, too, for many years. The show could be called "Austinlandia", but the whole current Gov. Perry and rest of Texas "thang" would get in the way. Portland is a mythical place for most Americans without too many overlays, except for basketball and rose lovers.
love that next to the artice there was an ad for republicbike.com "custom fixies"
Me thinks thou doth protest too much. Is that your ox I see being gored?
