I wish I was a versatile enough musician that I could sound other than the way that I sound so I would sound less "positively fake" hahahaha but i feel soooo enlightened now on how Folk and Pagan is supposed to sound NOT !!!!
"The lyrical mono-focus is a negative, not only because it is largely unrelatable to non-pagans, but because it is a dull and somewhat cliched examination of the subject matter." Maybe you should do your research, Josh, and figure out what the real impetus for the "cliched examination of the subject matter is." You might find it isn't cliched at all. You're a total dillhole.
I don't know about anyone else thinks but I am sick of negative ASSHOLES getting the job as music reviewer!?!? PLEASE FIRE THIS GUY!!
Why can't we find some people that aren't frustrated musicians that want to rip on everyone else!?! Boise Weekly should be Boise WEAKLY if they allow this kind of negativity!? I mean truly just cause you don't like this kind of music you can't figure out a way to appreciate the talent in it and how hard it is to just put out a record and say at least something objective and halfway kind? These are extremely kind and nice people putting out beautiful, nice music! What records have you put out? What kind of reviews have you gotten? Are you just taking it out on these nice people cause they are an easy target for you!? GOD what a worthless bunch of crap this is you have written! AMAZING!! I am SICK OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! PLEASE FIRE THIS IDIOT!!!!
Beltane Don't take stock in anything this guys writes.
Josh, you're just an asshole...
Rediculous Josh. You should be ashamed.
Looking at your career, it is obvious that your stock and trade is negative reviews. Do you think this makes you look cool? Because the actual effect is just the opposite. Are you just frustrated with your own minimal musical talent and your flailing attempts at entertaining? Your arrogance, coupled with your band name (GodCrotch? really?) positively scream "small penis".
As a non pagan who enjoys their music....how you you be so mean to such a nicely talented group of musicians? They may not sound like the canned likes of Katy or Gaga but YAY, because that is the point. Sometimes when stick your head above the crowd, someone throws a tomato. Let's have a Beltane party & make pasta with red sauce!!!
All I can say is wow! I have been a fan of Beltane for many years, back when Beltane was just Susan and Dana. I own a copy of their CD, and bought 2 others as gifts. I have also watched them perform live. At Hyde Park last month I saw them perform in front of a large diverse crowd, even the little children enjoyed their performance. After reading this review all I can think is that the author must be anti-pagan.
That was positively HARSH! These guys/girls are amazingly talented and their music is beautiful! Just exactly who died and made you the Nazi critic?
These guys are fantastic. Killer vocals, killer lyrics and a killer vibe. Really great stuff.
There is of course an obvious typo in my last comment: "The Slammer" should be "The Shredder."
The Shredder has stated that it is not the Hammerfest venue, see:
However, it still interesting that Jeremie Kaufman has publicly "out-ed" himself as a local Hammerskin organizer.
On the Hammerfest Facebook event page, Idaho Hammerskin activist "Idaho Taterskin" (AKA Jeremie Kaufman, owner of Valhallas Gate Tattoo in Nampa, ID) has stated that the venue for the event is The Slammer in downtown Boise:
The venue information is currently unconfirmed beyond the Facebook post, and may be a misdirection attempt by the Hammerskins. It will be interesting to see what that venue says. Even if the venue given is a disinformation attempt by the Hammerskins, it is still useful information to know what local Hammerskin is taking point on the festival organizing.
Last year was not the inaugural year for the Evil Wine Carnival. 2008 was. Maybe you should do a little journalism in your journalism.
Such an amazing show. Moonface, despite technical difficulties, moved the entire room. What an incredible performance!
The song Aviator of Love came off their first CD called "Aviator of Love" they often will give fans free downloads of thier older songs, go to their facebook page and see what they can do. http://www.facebook.com/#!/TransAtlanticCrush
Let's hope Avril breaks up Nickelback! http://ow.ly/dh2Fx
Nice review. But seriously, would you tell the Beatles to be more "consistent" or to have more "scope and vision?" Diversity key when it comes to making music interesting.
Apologies Nashville Pussy. Make that Saturday night. 'Ol Road Hog had the card turned up side down!
Nashville Pussy sounded great last night opening for ZZ Top. I'm looking forward to their show at the Neurolux on Friday.
I do have one comment on the ZZ Top show last night. Whomever was the obviously very young, ill-informed female announcer who proclaimed, "Everybody welcome The ZZ Tops," should be shunned and made to wear the scarlet letter. Her ignorance and disrespect to one of the greatest and most consistent American rock bands ever, was palpable as most fans around me gasps in disbelief and grumbled in protest. Not only did it affect the audience, I do believe it affected Billy's performance in the first two songs, sounding a little shaky and playing the wrong notes in "Waitin' for the Bus." But Billy, Dusty and Frank found the groove in short order and stellar performance by a legendary band prevailed.
You know, if the Knitting Factory and the artists are really that upset about the Hill Folk, all they have to do is turn the stage around. Really, what's the big whoop? My friends in the east end off Warm Springs can hear the music in their back yards. Should they go inside and close all their windows so they don't hear the music for free? Are the Hill Folk really cutting into profits? Are there more people on the hill than in the concert arena? I've been told the sound is better on the hill than in the concert arena and I'm not sure I want to pay to see any musician who's more worried about his or her bottom line and how much they're going to make from the show than sharing their music and talent with the world.
