One thing to note: The government has said that THEY have NO way to vette the refugees, specifically Syrian. So Carol and others who chastise others need to do to do the same of doing your homework. That is why a large part of Americans do NOT want them here, because it is a guarantee that there ARE terrorists using this huge relocation to get into OUR nation. That also means that they are in YOUR backyards as well. You want facts, how about Sharia Law over-ruling OUR nations laws just because they feel they have the right. Look at Texas. Its one thing to try and assimilate when you live in another country. It IS their choice to come here, for safety or whatever the reason. It is THEIR responsibility to learn and follow OUR countries laws, not their their own. There are innocents but there are also those who will do all they can to continue the war that has been going on in Syria and other countries, and ARE bringing it to America! Think on that. The safety of America is no longer, that for generations we have lived comfortably. We can no longer just be complacent!
Is Idaho selling the furniture to keep the house, temporarily, warm?
Governor, I hope that if this becomes another expensive and fruitless lawsuit that the State of Idaho ultimately loses (there's been a lot of ideological freelancing by the Legislature and others lately, resulting in court cases that go nowhere), you'll be the first to reimburse the state and its taxpayers (us) for all of the costs.
Your line for payment forms to the right, just behind all of the "ag-gag" legislators. You'll need to produce three forms of identification ...
Another lawsuit that taxpayers get to pay for. How many of these have we won in the last few years. Think about all the money we need to come up with to cover attorney fees and we keep losing. Either we need better attorney's or better lawsuits.
That's Idaho... believing that public lands belong to the state and (in Idaho) cattle interests. Give it a rest Idaho (B. Otter and the Idaho Cattlemen's Association), Idaho taxpayers are finally starting to realize that what they are getting comes out the backend of a cow....
I think our Raul "fits into the U.S. House shakeup" in much the same way as the sub-province of Labrador fits into Canada -- a barren, windswept, isolated, and hard-to-reach land of sparse activity and few people, on the extreme right fringe of the nation, which didn't even join the country of Canada until 1949, and even now remains remote from the mainstream of life in our friendly and moderate "good neighbor to the north".
Dear Representative Batt,
On your way out the door, could you write a check, payable to "State of Idaho", in partial reimbursement for the staff and court costs associated with defending the "ag-gag" bill in court (a bill that was patently unconstitutional even before the Legislature passed it, and was tossed out in a scathing legal opinion by Judge Winmill)?
I'm not asking for a lot -- just a token payment to indicate that Republicans still live by their own rules about limited government, less intrusion into the lives of the citizens, and keeping taxes low.
And thank you for your service to the State!
Gosh, you list a species … you get lambasted by the State of Idaho. You don't list a species and you extend faith that local conservation agreements and partnerships will work … you get lambasted by the State of Idaho.
Who's being duplicitous here?
"I'm shocked … shocked … to find that politics is going on here!"
You represent my district.
And you have not offered a single solution on any issue singularly that
benefits the middle or lower class.
Typical tea-party-of-no leadership.
Trickle down never works in theory or practice.
LOL No hidden agendas? You are right. The agendas were blatant.
I'm not sure it's accurate to portray Maine as a "Northeast liberal bastion," despite it trending Democratic in most recent elections.
For years it was one of the two most Republican states in the union. Traditionally it has been a very blue collar, working class society of loggers, fishermen, ship builders, most of whom hunt and fish. It's got a very conservative Republican governor. It's isolated, independent, and inward-looking. And it's a very poor state compared to most eastern states, the poorest in New England.
In many ways, not unlike … Idaho.
Nothing like a unsubstantiated comment by an ignorant, biased, holy Christian Idaho legislator being given full coverage.
Right wing nightmares, says a left winger Liberal.
As a former combat vet who has been in these countries, I think it's easy for those of you sit in comfort, as you say, and forget what is really going on and what they are brining in with them. Some are good people and then there are those which you fail to acknowledge, because you are scared, that will do harm. You can bad mouth me all you want but unless you have been in my boots on the ground in their country and see what has been going on then not one person here has any weight and lack knowledge. It's best to close your mouths and experience this essay people of war torn countries. You have become soft and weak and very vulnerable to the threat being brought in. Laugh as you will but you do not have my experience in first person with any of these people.
I say "thank you" to the Gods of journalism that Hartgen is no longer the publisher of the Times News, he turned a fairly moderate paper into a right-wing nightmare of hyperbole and bullshit.
I think that Steve Hartgen should research a little what some of these people have endured. They are not seeking refuge for economic reasons, they are seeking it because they have been beaten and watched someone break the bones in their children, seen their homes burnt to the ground and watched as their wives are raped. The people that are allowed to come here have had exhaustive back ground checks done and I bet would do their utmost best to integrate themselves into our society. Do your homework and then come back and tell us how these people do not deserve our help.
Those who attended or listened to the Times-News community forum last night saw significant support, and insignificant opposition from a small group of Three Percenters -- some respectful, some belligerent -- who apparently didn't feel represented in the conversation, despite the moderator asking their skeptical questions.
Well. I guess I will no longer be moving back to Boise. Where do you plan on putting these refugees? You guys figured out the homeless problem in the last 3 years? Think!
It's so easy for us to sit here in our relative comfort and forget just how bad some of these folks have it. They're not trying to come here because of dreams of streets paved in gold. They're trying to flee their homes so they don't get turned into sex slaves, get beheaded or worse. They're not trying to "steal our jobs" they're simply trying to not get killed.
And we get a bunch of folks with their head's up the back end crying "NOT IN MY BACK YARD" like they're somehow entitled or special. As a people we should be ashamed. This is what our nation was BUILT upon. This is what we once stood for.
Remind me again, what does it say on the Statue of Liberty? Something about "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" right? Not "You're different go the f*** away you losers!"
yup, them drug addled oreogonians be coming after your daughters in no time.........lol
