Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

My apartment complex just raised my rent (again, for the 4th time now in a 2 year timespan) from $995 which was already high to over $1400 for the 1000 sq ft 3B2B apt overlooking a lovely parking lot and trailer park. IN BOISE?

I don't know about you all, but my income hasn't risen that much.

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

We paid $1500 for our last two rentals, that's insane for the cost of living and salaries in Boise. Something has to be adjusted!

Re: “Are Boise rents too high?

I'm not sure if it's the rent that is too high, or if the wages are too low. Other places have much higher rent, but Idaho leads the nation in minimum wage jobs so it probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Re: “DBA State of Downtown Coming Attractions: A Stadium Update and Al Fresco Dining in the Middle of Capitol Boulevard

What bubble do these people live in. Capital Dining. Can the traffic get worse? Stadium money for the few. Make no mistake, these people do not have the interest of the people who live in town in mind. Boise, Denver, Phoenix. What will be the difference? The most livable city indeed.

Re: “DBA State of Downtown Coming Attractions: A Stadium Update and Al Fresco Dining in the Middle of Capitol Boulevard

200,000 is very realistic. It's around 5300 a game. The current venue is not an applicable comparison to a state of the art venue. We could fill Memorial Stadium on a more consistent basis if it didnt have the challenges and the 1st base grandstand sun issues. Attendance has spiked the past 3 years and this year will be probably the largest one yet.

Re: “DBA State of Downtown Coming Attractions: A Stadium Update and Al Fresco Dining in the Middle of Capitol Boulevard

I love the idea of a new baseball stadium. To get even 200,000 people through that stadium for baseball, though, the Hawks would have to nearly double their attendance to nearly 6000 a game. That seems optimistic. To tally 300,000 people in a season they would need a full season AAA team which is hard to come by. Is this something they are expecting to accomplish?

Re: “Sally Boynton Brown

Sally's leaving is a great loss for the state of Idaho. She is an excellent listener when many in the party wanted little or no change. I hope her replacement is even half the person she is!

Re: “There's No 'T' in Boise... For Now

Let's do the math.

Assuming the $111 million for initial construction falls out of the sky, look at the costs going forward. Using the city's numbers...

1400 passengers every day... 365 days (assuming it runs every day of the year, which the buses don't)... that's 511,000 rides per year. Awesome!

$3.3 million per year to operate. That's about 6-and-a-half bucks per ride. If the ride is shut down on Sundays, like the bus, the cost per ride is a little over 7-and-a-half bucks.

Will people climb on board (toot! toot!) and fork over that kind of dough? Nah. So obviously it will be heavily subsidized by people who aren't riding.

Re: “Panera Bread Coming to Downtown Boise

HOLY SHIT! A panera bread in Boise?!?! I'm finally going to make the move. I couldn't be more excited. Any real estate brokers available to show me houses near by? I want to be in before the explosion of rent.

Re: “Absinthe Any Objections

Pacifique is excellent absinthe. Voyager is excellent gin in the modern style (and not the London Dry style). Sorry Robert, but London Dry style is actually the more "real" gin in terms of historical perspective, and juniper is most definitely a botanical. Just as vodka is the liquor for people who don't like liquor, modern gin is the gin for people who don't like gin!

Re: “Absinthe Any Objections

This place is AWESOME!! And they make "Real" gin as well, from real plant/ botanicals... NOT the gin that tastes like distilled pine trees. My hats off to this small batch local distillery. Good work, we will be back!!

Re: “Sally Boynton Brown

When she's having a conversation with herself, does she tell herself to shut up so the black people can also be heard? (At least there's more black folks in Florida than in Idaho, so it won't always be awkward silence.)

Re: “Toasting the First Amendment

The first amendment does not give you the right to shout a person down, that is called disturbing the peace.. If I have a person coming down my street hollering and screaming and does not leave I will call the police and have them removed...

Re: “A New (And Free) Solution to Downtown Boise's Parking Crunch

So ,what do people do between the morning hours and afternoon hours? It appears that this is only for people who work downtown ,why not make the system larger by making more routes into the 'burbs .
And maybe a train route from Caldwell to Boise ,then expand bus routes ,not everyone lives in the downtown area.

Re: “A New (And Free) Solution to Downtown Boise's Parking Crunch

The problem for me is safety. The garages are not safe. There are no attendees even around the place that I pay. Park and ride is not going to be any better.

Re: “End of the Line for Grapevine in Boise's North End

Dear Boise Weekly Editor and Staff,

The Grapevine, Inc. is now focused on the purchase of the building and recently met with Mayor Bieter to discuss what we have always viewed as our second in a sequence of three preferred options. The Mayor acknowledged and expressed appreciation for our desire to purchase, repair, and restore our historic home, and to continue to serve the neighborhood with a broad array of 12-Step recovery meetings.

Although one door has closed, another has opened. With the purchase of the building for the minimum bid of $50,000 we will continue to . . . work together to continue the tradition of Fire Station No. 2 by saving lives whether we are fire fighters long gone, persons in recovery, or their families. Generous donors during the Idaho Gives campaign gifted us over $12,000 for this purpose. This, in combination with grant monies we have applied for, and our dedicated cash in the bank brings us to the minimum bid for the building.
