Re: “Happy Birthday, Smoking Ban

Anti-smokers have no excuses left so they dive right into a LIE so deep any level-headed person knows it's a lie; leaving the impression anyone who smells smoke in the air has somehow magically and instantly contacted some life threatening illness that will cause all your organs to fail... Can you say what a bunch of BS???

------------- The Largest study on Second Hand Smoke ever done by Enstrom
http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/326/73…
“No significant associations were found for current or former exposure to environmental tobacco smoke before or after adjusting for seven confounders and before or after excluding participants with pre-existing disease. No significant associations were found during the shorter follow up periods of 1960-5, 1966-72, 1973-85, and 1973-98.”

“Enstrom has defended the accuracy of his study against what he terms ‘illegitimate criticism by those who have attempted to suppress and discredit it.’". (Wikipedia)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

------ Court rules that environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) is NOT a Class A carcinogen
http://www.tobacco.org/Documents/980717ost…
“There is evidence in the record supporting the accusation that EPA ‘cherry picked’ its data” … “EPA's excluding nearly half of the available studies directly conflicts with EPA's purported purpose for analyzing the epidemiological studies and conflicts with EPA's Risk Assessment Guidelines” (p. 72)

-------- OSHA will NOT regulate something that’s NOT hazardous
http://www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.sh…
“Air contaminants, limits employee exposure to several of the main chemical components found in tobacco smoke. In normal situations, exposures would not exceed these permissible exposure limits (PELs), and, as a matter of prosecutorial discretion, OSHA will not apply the General Duty Clause to ETS.”

Study about health & Smoking Bans – The National Bureau of Economic Research
http://www.nber.org/papers/w14790
“Workplace bans are not associated with statistically significant short-term declines in mortality or hospital admissions for myocardial infarction or other diseases.”

http://www.cigarmony.com/downloads/smoking…
“Conclusions: Our results indicate no association between childhood exposure to ETS(environmental tobacco smoke) and lung cancer risk.”

Showtime television, "How the EPA, CDC, Lung Association, and etc." support their claims.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGApkbcaZK4

Then the US Surgeon General went over all the studies to date in 2006 again and even though he went on public TV and announced "No safe level", the report itself showed exactly the opposite.
---The evidence is … not sufficient to infer a causal relationship between exposure to secondhand smoke and an increased risk of stroke. (p. 13)
---The evidence is … not sufficient to infer a causal relationship between secondhand smoke exposure from parental smoking and the onset of childhood asthma.(p. 13)
---The evidence is inadequate to infer the presence or absence of a causal relationship between exposure to secondhand smoke during infancy and childhood cancer.(p. 11)

*** Notice how the wording is "suggestive but NOT SUFFICIENT". "Suggestive" is completely a hypocritical word for "I'd like to think". Yet none of the studies can even make a "CASUAL" relationship which isn't even close to a SIGNIFICANT relationship!!!

Re: “Boise Council Passes Smoke-Free Ordinances, Looks to Taxis Next

The difference between smoking bars and non-smoking bars is choice. It really is as simple as that.

Re: “Video Update: Boise Council Inhales Scores of Comments During Smoke-Free Hearings

OMG.. What a bunch of cry babies.. I've never seen so many grown people complain so much over something as stupid as a little smoke in the air. I say make all day-cares smoke free so the whining, complaining, and spoiled adults who fuss about a little smoke can be pampered like the children they are.

Re: “Smokin' City Hall Memo

If I told you noise is a major health hazard and I want peace and quiet everywhere I go and that no one should have to put up with noise from others can we get legislature to ban everyone form making any noise. There's seems to be a rampant selfish attitude with some people these days. If the anti-smokers need protections from everything and everybody, wouldn't it make more sense to just have them move back in with mom & pa until they learn that their selfish behavior can't co-exist in a free society? Does anyone really believe this crap about smoke being a major health hazard. How many 80yr old's do we see everyday still puffing away straight from the source. Sure isn't rat poison their sucking on, or they would no longer be around. To believe being near someone once in a great while has any effect is complete stupidity at it's most ignorant phase. Just because there's people who have been brain washed to believe a little smoke in the air is offensive doesn't give them a right to bully everyone around like a bunch of 2nd graders. If they can't handle life maybe they should visit their local psychologist.

Re: “Attention smokers

I agree with the above to the point that a landlord shouldn't have to allow indoor smoking since it is property damage. At the same time I agree there is a large discrimination movement towards smokers that seems to have blind-folded the general public. There's talk of forcing smoking out of bars (ridiculousness) and even smoking outside (completely discriminating). They've used the media to drive illusional fear to ban people from smoking were smoking has NO health concern. THAT, I believe if FLAT discrimination. No matter what you've heard second hand smoke doesn't have enough hazard to it to be considered a concern.. I have proof of this and have sent it to both boise papers. Do they publish it? NO. Why? Because they know with this discrimination in the area the city would be in an outrage..... PLAY FAIR IS ALL THE SMOKERS ARE ASKING FOR..

Re: “Up in Smoke

I love how discrimination has become so acceptable in a country where millions have died fighting for individual rights. As noted by Claria "Embrace your place at the bottom of the social pecking order and stop whining about it." Obviously Claria hasn't or ever will fight for individual rights.

It seems you have also been polluted by the scare tactics of the Anti-Smoking foundations because if you weren't and you did your RESEARCH, you'd find scientific case after case that shows outside second hand smoke has not proven any health concerns from outside smoking. The research shows if you live in a smoke filled house your chances of catching cancer goes up 0.1% due to the second hand smoke. If you want to justify taking away right, I'd hope you'd have done your RESEARCH a little better.
