May theme: Crushes: stories about sudden infatuation. Learn more at www.storystorynight.org.
This is Jessica Holmes, and I have to say, the 501(c)3 paperwork was actually done by our board president Alison Beck and financial director/board member Nissa Nagel, with help from the rest of our board, Kris Query, Bob Nagel, and me, Jessica, plus a lawyer funded by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. Plus the work of staff before them, like Emma Arnold. It was epic, and definitely a team effort. Also, I described the 7 minutes of terror slightly wrong because I should have reread the New Yorker article, "The Martian Chronicles," that this Curiosity theme was inspired by, but instead I did my makeup.
Our all-ages season moves to the El Korah Shrine this fall. With themes based on '80s movies, catch a Story Story Night on the last Monday of every month Nov. to Apr. More here: www.storystorynight.org
Emerald, we so appreciate your letter and your comments. I think part of the problem stems from our ticketing system, as that night in question was complicatedly over-sold and therefore a bit too rowdy.
I think it's partly up to us at Story Story Night to set the stage better for the slammers (don't worry, our musician Dan Costello and I have a fun plan for our upcoming shows) and also for the crowd with the right pace and structures to create harmony. But yes, in the end, Story Story Night is all about celebrating and respecting each other's experience, and we all need to keep that in mind.
We will be announcing a new solution for ticketing that we hope will accommodate all parties (meaning those who want advance tickets to save a seat, and those who want to be more spontaneous and buy at the door). So stay tuned at www.storystorynight.com, and thanks for all of your support.
Story Story Night loves you too Josh Gross!
I think he used comedic license, and it worked. A gray building with a yellow sign in a godforsaken hick town is way funnier than a brick building with a white sign in a fairly awesome, fairly literary town. Maybe his subterfuge will keep outsiders away from our library! books.
I think you mean "Advocates for the West," not "Defenders for the West." Good update. Thanks.
