Carlson is a victim on so many levels. This human being needs help, not more pain and suffering inflicted by law enforcement, courts and the media.
Wow! This is such an excellent piece of reporting. It shows the abuse this person has faced on a number of levels. I'm not suggesting that the offenses she is charged with are reason for the alleged actions, but it really exposes the lack of basic human respect on part of the police, courts, and the media. This needs to be read nationally because I'm sure it happens in a lot of places outside of Idaho! Well done!
I am a military veteran and openly gay. While I was on active duty the last thing that was on my mind was sex, but the Republicans and right-wing extremists are unable to see gay people as human beings. I served my hitch and I have my Honorable Discharge, but the idea that gay citizens in the military are being forced to lie in order to serve their country is wrong-headed thinking. Republicans and misguided conservatives are damaging our national security with this nonsense of holding on to bigoted attitudes towards gay citizens.
I wonder if the Idaho media will run to Brown for a comment the way the bent over backwards to help make Bryan Fischer into a national celebrity! Anyone who goes to the Idaho Values Alliance website will discover that they do NOT take comments from readers. IVA is a fringe group whose primary objective is to denigrate ANYONE - especially gays - who does not fall into their 'white and delightful' view of America!
Journalism at its best!!!!
This is a much bigger story in so many respects. I think what you have here is actually groundbreaking because you are touching on a subject that is pushed aside by the police, courts and news media to a good extend. Carlson has it right, it does boil down to respect for the individual in the most personal and private way.
The system itself is at fault because in so many ways it created this problem. Carlson legally changed her gender and when law enforcement and the courts fail to recognize that deeply personal and private issue, they have helped to incite the issue.
Congrats to the Boise Weekly for having some guts to shed some light on an issue that is simply left in the dark!
same-sex weddings will be a boon to the economy! all those flowers, caterers, embossed invitations, and conga dancers will bring in major bucks to California! But seriously, this is fantastic! Too bad it is taking all these legal battles and political mudslinging to finally get a federal judge to do the right thing!
