Re: “A Persistence of Vision

I was also in the unit during 1958-59. battalion personal specialist and driver for the XO, Capt. Brakefield while in the field. Three days a week for about 8 months of the year. I remember a private draftee named Sample who detested the Army so bad he did everything he could to get out....even to wrapping up one leg so he could limp properly. Was an artist from California. He was such a neusence that he was finally successful in his attempts. I ran across this site trying to find out something about my old unit. Col. Autrey was the C O. The HONEST JOHN was a solid fuel rocket that had to be launched from a stationery mobile platform built onto a 5 ton truck. It took a whole crew of about ten men from the assembly and transport platoons to ready the vehicle for launch. I just happen to have several pics of the demos and the firing of said vehicle.
I AGREE...THIS REPORTER SHOULD CHECK HIS FACTS. What part of the word RESEARCH does he not understand.

J R P 'The Duck' 1957-59
ps: the units name was changed to 2nd missile batallion in '58
