Addendum: I also agree that there are less than 37,000 wild horses on public lands. They always skew the numbers and as of today, 10/9/2012, they have yet to get an accurate count of how many horses are on any HML (hml which is really a place that they are breeding for slaughter and I am not afraid to say it because that is what has been happening. Sure, they have adoptions, but within the holding facilities there has never been an accurate count, and there are SECRET holding facilities that are NEVER accounted for because they sell these horses to kill buyers to send to slaughter).
Thank you Vickery Eckhoff for excellent coverage and answers. What is still unknown: The BLM does not have accurate records of the roundup charges broken down by how many horses are rounded up charging per head and payment to these companies; and their employees who have the right to "buy" or take a certain percentage of each roundup...which is never reported in BLM records. This gov. agency has repeatedly admitted that they will do anything for a profit. I think it is a profit that they are putting into their own pockets. Tracking down these individuals and their bookkeeping system is next to impossible when they also harrass and abuse FBI agents and others who investigate their agency(ies). I have been out of the loop for a while; still battleing M.S. but, I have not given up. The recent news just is some of the things that we now have a name that can be used. What I also want to know is why the federal gov. doesn't understand that people who investigate this agency are in danger and can be harmed because of the illegal activities. It's all criminal behavior while these people who work for BLM have constantly put on their cheery smiley faces and outright lied each time. I also wonder why the federal gov. pays for these stupid holding facilities when there is more than enough federal lands (aka reserves) to put these wild horses on until they can learn to MANAGE the LAND properly. But if you read the lease agreements between BLM and the cattle/sheep ranchers you will find that these ranchers have the right to starve, kill or get rid of these wild horses and burros as they see fit. Criminal? And no charges are ever filed - even though the federal gov. has laws protecting wild life on public/federal lands. So, you and I both know that these people have been and are still in the criminal business of stealing and selling these horses and burros without criminal charges being filed. Thanks again for your excellent coverage. And, please remember the investigators in the field and their safety. Thank you!
