For-profit prisons, for-profit schools, for-profit health care- all bad ideas.
I've been trying to be reasonable and argue logically about this with people by backing up my concerns with numbers and appeals to their common sense and compassion. I am getting no where. Seems to me that the prevailing attitude is since it mainly affects poor people, who cares? Don't know whether to laugh or cry. Probably will just keep arguing.
Seems to me that if teen pregnancy is Senator Heider's concern then funding sex ed and increasing access to birth control would be a more reasonable response. Once people, including young people, have done the time for their crime, they deserve a chance to rebuild their lives. Education can empower people by imparting skills, knowledge, and hope. Don't take that away.
