I think that there should be more thourough checks on any muslim that tries to join the military. And I feel for those who where hurt by the FT. Hood shooting. Especially the soldiers. How would you feel if your C.O. that you saluted every day was muslim and then kills your friends then shoots you? I would say that there are plenty of soldiers who don't think that there should be muslims in the military. But of course, Obama being muslim his self is not going to do anything about it. For all I know hes a terrorist himself.

Nice work!
As someone who lives near "the border" on Cole Road (which is in fact part of the border between CD-01 and -02, coincidentally), I do note that the precincts aren't "winner take all," so the yellow of precinct 56 (105 to 101 for Litster) isn't the same as, say, 94 (283 to 180); it would be cool to see more than 2 levels.

It's always been the pattern in Boise for the past 30 years I've lived here. But turnout wasn't spectacular when the city council was the only show. You need a lot more to get folks out. Maybe if they'd given away Broncos-Vandals game tickets everyone would have voted and they could quit whining about not filling the stadium that they want to expand again.

If we are really interested in keeping the wolf population in check, why don't we just use hormonal implants in the females or nueter the males? I know there are enough people who care about animals that we could raise the money and put in the time to do this every year. A year ago I called Fish and Game to suggest this, and the person who took my call snidely remarked "You can just send that money to me" and went on to insinuate that I wanted to save the wolves so I could "view them" as if they were for entertainment purposes. It seems our department of Fish and Game is not considering the welfare of the wolves, but rather the entertainment of Idaho's citizens, and sadly, many think it is fun to kill.
Shooting wolves is particularly evil as they are members of families and have very strong emotional bonds; just one kill shatters the lives of the entire pack. It is unfathomable to me why we would re-introduce wolves just so we can shoot them. The entire ordeal is a horrible tragedy. The Idaho lawmakers who allow this and the people who are participating in this bloodsport should be full of remorse and shame for the pain they are inflicting on these animals.
To shoot animals for food is one thing, but to kill sentient beings for sport is just plain cruelty and should be illegal. How were these people who enjoy torturing animals raised to have no compassion?
There are thousands of Muslims in the US military, and two attacks by Muslims within the ranks (the last one in 2003) is not an indictment on Islam. As Obama said yesterday in his speech at Ft. Hood, no religion or just god condones this behavior. Christian extremists within the military have been just as vengeful, especially in the wake of 9/11, in the name of God, but that is not cause to ban Christians from enlisting. Most Christians see that behavior as sinful and against Jesus's teachings, just as most Muslims denounce the attack at Ft. Hood as against their own teachings. Some people are just psychotic and violent, and when they're associated with a religion, it unfairly reflects on those who share the same religion, but not the same proclivity toward destruction. So, sorry, Jeannie, it's not "just a fact," nor a conflict of interest for Muslims to enlist. You just sound afraid of what is foreign to you. This is nothing new, but recognize it for what it is.

I agree. After 9-11-01, we Americans were faced with an enemy who happens to belong to a particular religious group:Islam. Muslims don't belong in the US military. It's not being racist or an islamophobe. It's just a fact. Muslims are taught in their holy book, the Koran, to never kill Muslims. Clearly, this can be a big conflict of interest when Muslims are sent over to Iraq or Afghanistan. Their allegiance is to Allah, not to America. If an American Muslim truly loves the US, he or she should serve in another capacity. Don't join the military. I'm sure there are lots of patriotic Muslims out there. That's fine, Just do the US armed services a favor: don't enlist, don't join the military. You can help America out in other ways.

Maryanne lost about 21 precincts, not just one. For an incumbent that's a pretty bad performance. She also did not get the endorsements of BCA and the Police Union. If you contrast the combined challenger votes with the incumbent votes, she lost 20 more precincts than she lost in 2005. The bloom is off the rose to say the least. You'll also notice that the precincts where Litster and Baumbach campaigned is where they won. I give you precincts 82 and 99.
The conservatives lost because conservative precincts, like 93 and 94 only had a ~16% turnout of about 6000 potential voters (because the City tampered with poll location?), whereas in Shealy and Eberle's north-end precincts turnout exceeded 30%.

I think it's interesting that the districts that Litster won are those with poor bus service. Since they are currently not benefiting from public transportation these residents agree with Litster that the city shouldn't spend any more money on that type of service. Kinda selfish, but hey, that's Idaho.

I'm afraid to say it - but there are differences in overall community patterns east / west. Also interesting that one of TJ Thompsons first public statements was that he was "not a liberal". That's not what you would glean from the map ...

I love and am a bit horrified at the turnout that can produce a 106/92 race with another candidate bringing in 41 ... not that many people really.

It's a wonder to me that Mr. Minnick can vote "no" on such an historic bill. This bill provides an entitlement enjoyed by citizens of every other developed country. You know it will soon become as broadly popular as Medicare and Social Security. But how will Minnick's obit read: "Idaho Congressman. Served one term. Voted against universal health care."
