Born in Basra, Iraq, in 1967. In 1987 Asaad began studying fine arts a the University of Babylon. In 1990 he was arrested and jailed because of his religious beliefs. He was released in 1992 and continued his education, earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Babylon in 1995 and his master's degree from the University of Baghdad. In 1000, Asaad left Iraq and traveled to Jordan to request political asylum. After a year of waiting he was granted permission to come to the United States where he now lives in Idaho.
