Aqueduct: Or Give Me Death 

One, two, lets go: Spring has sprung and so have I. While sitting outside the coffee shop on a Monday night with 68 degree winds blowing gently against my face, I realize that I am smiling wildly and bobbing my head. For those not noticing the ear phones, I am sure it looks creepy, and they probably think I've been let out too soon, or got lost on my way home. The truth is, I'm smiling because of the brilliant pop flooding my eardrums. I blame this smiling like an idiot on the latest album from Seattle's Aqueduct: Or Give me Death.

It is not because this is a comedy album that I laugh, no. It is because this album is shamelessly poppy and genuinely fun. It has been a long while since I've heard an album that takes tasty, but ordinary, pop hooks and delivers them in a fresh way. Of all the folk-tale heroes of spring, David Terry's self-proclaimed bedroom rock promises the freedom that comes with longer days and warmer nights. It's a four-leaf clover among rolling green hills, and in the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow lie tracks like "Lying on the Bed I've Made," an anthem of apologetic reflection. "You've made me be painfully aware of what you think of me/and for the most part/I'm starting to believe it's true/I put my faith in you." Or on the superstar track "Living a Lie," a wrenching pop song complete with loud guitars, drum loops and other samples with the great line, "It's not living a lie if you're not living at all." Oh, so true. Like any Easter bunny, I suggest that you, the reader, hop barefoot to the record shop and purchase this one. It's a good egg. You can see it for yourself when Aqueduct plays the Neurolux on April 26. I'll see you there.
