Asiago's Ristorante 

I decided to take my little bro Brady out to dinner. We had just watched The Godfather and after concluding the cook for the movie deserved an Oscar, we decided to feed the Godfather in us both. What better place to do that than Asiago's Ristorante?

We arrived with empty stomachs and as we were seated in the dining room, I thought, "It's all couples ... the guys in this place sure are staring intently at the women at their tables. I hope nobody expects me to look at Brady like that. If I did I'd probably lose my appetite." We were seated amongst the couples. I ordered a couple of San Pellegrinos and the Aglio, toasted bread with a goat cheese and roasted garlic dip, as an appetizer from our charming waitress Sandi. She had a few things to say about the differences between the downtown Asiago's and this one. For example, the menus are different—the downtown place has more eclectic choices while this Asiago's puts eccentric twists on Italian favorites. We took our time par-oozing (I think that word is Italian so it's only fitting that I use it here) the entrees, munched on our tasty Aglio and drinking our Peligrinos. I drank mine straight from the bottle—it looks tougher that way. We came to the conclusion that we should get different dishes and share. Yeah, just like a "couple" would do. We're close like that.

Sandi went to great lengths to explain all the entrees. Almost everything is made from scratch. The pasta, the sauces, the bread, the dressings, the desserts, and yes—even the meatballs. Brady ordered the Varese with garlic meatballs, a.k.a. spaghetti and meatballs. It was a little ordinary, I thought, so I ordered the Gorzegno, a.k.a. gnocchi with a sun dried tomato pesto cream sauce, a less conventional choice. Brady wasn't a huge fan of his Varese, complaining that it wasn't "sweet like a red sauce should be." I think he might have been expecting canned Ragu sauce. My Gorzegno, however, was a dish The Godfather cast would deem worthy. Those little potato pasta pieces melted in my mouth like butter and the sauce was a perfect sweet and creamy coating. I could have probably eaten around 2,000 of those little gnocchis (more with a nap). Brady scowled at his Varese and tore into my gnocchis. As we licked our shared plates clean, we gave a few pats on the back to the couples for picking this restaurant and decided we should bring a few lucky ladies next time.

Final word: Molto Bene! (I say this as I kiss my fingers and flick my hand into the air. Brady says it as he dances a short jig.)
