Bizarre Biophilia with Bjork

The Icelandic star puts yet another new twist on strange

The Icelandic queen of weird once again takes strange to a new level.

Bjork Guomundsdottir, known to the world as simply Bjork, released her very own iPhone app: Biophilia. Anything Bjork, by nature, is incredibly difficult to describe but iTunes tries by writing, "Biophilia is an extraordinary and innovative multimedia exploration of music, nature and technology." At 114MB, it's five times as large as most other apps. It's so large, in fact, that it cannot be downloaded over 3G, it's wifi only.

Once open Biophilia, you'll start the experience by flying through the cosmos with David Attenborough narrating. This is Biophilia's best attribute. Unfortunately, once the intro has played through, you don't hear Attenborough any more, and you're left to float through space with only Bjork's bleating vocals to guide you.

Within this cosmos, there are 10 "galaxies" that when selected, will open new "in-app experiences"--available for a fee. According to iTunes, the experiences "explore the relationships between musical structures and natural phenomena, from the atomic to the cosmic."

Hard-core Bjork fans will most likely be the only ones to actually enjoy this app." If you have ever watched the Cremaster Cycle, by Bjork's longtime partner and Boise native Matthew Barney, Biophilia might be for you.
