Bob Moog Dies • Willie Nelson in Sun Valley • Project Om • MTV's Music Video Awards

Bob Moog, renowned theremin builder, died August 21 at the age of 71. Moog, who began building the instruments in his teens, was highly respected among theremin players and enthusiasts alike.

Just a reminder: The XFest T-shirt contest Official X-Fest T-Shirt Thingy ends August 31. Visit the Web site at www.xrock.com/xfest-tshirt.html for more details.

Another reminder: The Boise Blues Society is sponsoring a blues talent contest in which the winner will go to Memphis to represent the BBS in the International Blues Challenge January 26 through 28. A full explanation of the contest may be found at www.blues.org. Entries must be received by September 23.

If you wanted to see Willie Nelson in Sun Valley next month but couldn't get tickets, you may find this little tidbit of information rather tasty: According to a press release, the Texas Roadhouse is offering fans the opportunity to meet Mr. Nelson and win tickets to his September 10 concert. The tickets and the meet and greet are part of a Texas Roadhouse/Willie Nelson prize package, which also includes dinner for two at Texas Roadhouse and a copy of Nelson's CD Songs for Tsunami Relief. You can register to win at the Texas Roadhouse in Meridian at 3801 E. Fairview. No purchase required, and deadline to register is 10 p.m., Thursday, September 8.

Project Om is coming up on September 10. As a hip-hop happening, this is one of the happeningest. Look for more information in the September 7 issue of BW.

MTV's Music Video Awards took over the airwaves Sunday, August 28 (yes, believe it or not, MTV still plays music videos). Post-punkers Green Day took home seven awards out of eight nominations for their newest missive American Idiot. The Killers and Fall Out Boy both took home a coveted silver space guy. Kanye West walked away with Best Male Video for "Jesus Walks." Cutie-turned-hottie Kelly Clarkson, always hottie Gwen Stefani, Madam MC Missy Elliott and animated guys The Gorillaz all took home two awards each. Daddy Diddy hosted the events and put on a grandiose show of fireworks, dancers and general opulence that rivaled any of the performances of the night. For photos of the night's glamorous get-ups and fashion failures, visit www.mtv.com.
