A proposed development at the site of an East Boise landmark has been a hot potato for the better part of a year, and it was still up in the air as Tuesday night became Wednesday morning at Boise City Hall.
The Boise City Council burned the midnight oil, hearing hours of testimony on a proposal to build a 24-home subdivision at the site of Ben's Crow Inn, which is closed after serving customers for more than a 50 years.
DevCo Real Estate developers came to the city of Boise to re-annex the property to accommodate 24 lots on 4.2 acres on East Warm Springs Avenue. The homes would range from 2,300 to 2,800 square feet. When the Boise City Planning and Zoning Commission took up the proposal in May, it ended in a tie vote, tossing the issue to the Boise City Council for the ultimate decision.
The City Council also voted in a 2-2 tie vote on whether to grant the annexation, after hearing from East Boise residents who pushed back against the proposal with particular concerns about access to the Boise Greenbelt.
"Gosh, I sure hope this doesn't end in a tie where I would have to vote," Boise Mayor Dave Bieter said repeatedly Tuesday night.
Ultimately, it was up to Bieter to break the tie. He decided to agree to a motion to delay any decision on possible re-annexation for 60 days. City officials told developers to go back to the drawing board, come up with some new ideas on their designs and return within the next two months.
Felonies were filed Oct. 21 against March, who has been charged with felony counts of 1st Degree Murder, Burglary and Grand Theft. Barclay has been charged with felony counts of Burglary and Grand Theft, and is currently in custody.
