Cancelled gigs-Orgy and The Killers

KBSU's Steve Johnston resigns

News from Boise's local music scene has been quiet this week, hopefully due to the torrent of news to come after Memorial Day kicks off the summer. For the most part, however, we've received more negative announcements of cancelled gigs (negative depending on what residents think of the bands cancelling, of course).

Orgy, which was scheduled at The Big Easy for June 5, has been cancelled and tickets already purchased can be sent to Ticketweb Refunds, P.O. Box 77250, San Francisco, California 94107. Tickets bought online or over the phone will be automatically refunded.

The same goes for The Killers, who have cancelled their show in Boise it seems, for the millionth time. These guys are good, but they've really got a problem with commitment. Every other week they're playing, then they're not, then they are. Either the band has a severe aversion to follow-through, or the PR manager has developed an debilitating case of indecision. For ticket refunds for The Killers show, see the above address. For questions regarding either show, call 1-866-777-8932.

Kool 104.3 Senior Prom, featuring the Fabulous Chancellors, has also been cancelled. The night was scheduled for June 12 on the Boise Centre on the Grove. This event, you could say, is now "off like a prom dress." For questions, call 426-1494.

In the local radio world, the interim general manager and director of engineering and operations at Boise State Radio, Steve Johnston, recently resigned to accept the position of assistant director of radio/television for the University of Wisconsin in Madison. His main areas of responsibility will be the engineering and operations departments of Wisconsin Public Radio, and after 5 years with Boise State Radio, Johnston says the decision was far from easy. "This public radio service is a powerful community asset of which we can all be very proud," says Johnston on the radio's Web site at http://radio.boisestate.edu. "I know I have been proud to be associated with the Boise State Radio staff, management, listeners and members," he adds.
