Coheed and Cambria, Oct. 15, Knitting Factory

When they first came on the scene, the name Coheed and Cambria evoked thoughts of soft rock: Loggins and Messina, Belle and Sebastian, Hall and Oates, Simon and Garfunkel. But similarities stop right at the two-name thing. Coheed and Cambria are in a category a million miles away.

For many, the introduction to Coheed and Cambria and frontman Claudio Sanchez's androgynously high voice was the goofy, adorable Foo Fighters-esque video for "A Favor House Atlantic" off of their 2003 release, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. The album name is kind of a clue to C and C's sound: an emo/screamo/prog/hard-hitting melody-driven rock.

One glance at Sanchez's enviable head of thick curly locks and one earful of his unique vocals and C and C's full-on wall-of-sound approach, and they could never be mistaken for purveyors of bubblegum pop.
