"It's a movement for democracy," Hansen said of the Democratic Party in Idaho. "[We need to get] new people involved in the community."
Hansen will replace former John Foster, who is now at work on Walt Minnick's campaign. Foster left the executive director position after marked success as a fundraiser, but not without sparking some tension among party regulars.
Hansen, a former three-term legislator, was most recently himself a candidate for Idaho's Second Congressional District. He ran against incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson, a Republican. In that 2006 matchup, Simpson won easily, but not before facing Hansen in a tense television debate on Idaho Public Television.
