The message Friday morning from nonprofits across Idaho was simple: "Thank you for being awesome!"
The first-ever Idaho Gives campaign ended at midnight Thursday and the numbers were very impressive. $578,735 was donated to more than 500 nonprofits in yesterday's 24 hour give-a-thon. The half million dollars- plus came from 6,192 unique donors, making a total of 9,415 donations.
Additionally, the top five nonprofits in three categories (large, medium and small) are eligible for bonus dollars because they garnered the largest number of unique donors. While some other nonprofits were possibly fortunate enough to receive more dollars, these nonprofits are being rewarded for getting the most support from individuals:
In the large category, the top five were the Idaho Humane Society, the Idaho Foodbank, Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley and Boise Contemporary Theater.
In the medium category, the top five were McPaws, the Idaho Falls School District Education Foundation, the Boise Bicycle Project, Just Strays Animal Foundation and the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
In the small category, the top five were the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, River Discovery, Girls on the Run, Helping Idaho Dogs and The Rat Retreat.
