A young Idaho man has died while competing in a cross-country ski race in Vermont.

Torin Tucker, 20, had been competing in the Craftsbury Vermont Marathon 25-kilometer race as a member of the Dartmouth College Nordic team. Tucker was also a member of the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Nordic team.

A Dartmouth official said attempts to revive Tucker at the scene were unsuccessful. The cause of his death is still undetermined.

The Dartmouth ski team returned to their campus and did not compete in the remainder of the races.

A statement from Dartmouth read, "The thoughts of Dartmouth athletics are with Torin's family, friends, and the entire Dartmouth community on this sad day. We urge students faculty, and staff who would like to speak to a counselor or chaplain, on their own behalf or out of concern for someone else, to contact Safety and Security at any hour."

Tucker was a member of the Dartmouth Class of 2015.

Torin Tucker ’15 leads the pack in a roller-ski training session, taken in the fall of 2013. Tucker died on February 1 at a cross country ski event.
