Idaho Unemployment Drops to 5.3 Percent 

Three rural counties—Adams, Clearwater and Shoshone—still recorded double-digit unemployment in February, but that was down from seven counties in double-digit unemployment for February 2013.

Idaho's unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a percentage point in February—to 5.3 percent—the lowest rate in more than five years.

The Idaho Department of Labor reported Friday morning that total employment set its sixth straight monthly record—735,500—up 1,100 from January. The number of workers without jobs dropped blow 41,000 for the first time since August 2008.

The job service said that total nonfarm jobs were 2 percent higher than February 2013 and only six other states had stronger job growth, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Three rural counties—Adams, Clearwater and Shoshone—still recorded double-digit unemployment in February, but that was down from seven counties in double-digit unemployment for February 2013.

Clearwater had the highest jobless rate: 11.7 percent. Franklin had the lowest rate at 3.4 percent.
