The Idaho State Journal published a startling report
April 17, chronicling how several eastern Idaho teens have gone missing yet authorities have not alerted the public.
Writing for the Journal,
reporter Debbie Bryce found out about the missing teens by visiting the websites of the Idaho State Police and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
. When the paper asked local law enforcement about as many as eight Idaho teens currently reported as missing, police said they were considered runaways "and don't meet the criteria for issuing an AMBER Alert."
According to the Journal
, not only did local law enforcement not issue any AMBER alerts for the missing juveniles, "in nearly every case, local law enforcement did not even issue a press release." What's more, law enforcement didn't have photos of two of the eight juveniles from eastern Idaho, missing since last December.
offered detailed information about each of the missing teens in its Sunday, April 17 front page story and reminded readers that if anyone had information they were urged to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
