PIE NEWS VOL. 1

The temperature gauge is hitting the highest points of the summer this month and in keeping with tradition Flying Pie is unleashing its hottest pizza on Boise's pie-loving public.

Starting August 1, the Pie's Double Habanero Pizza will be heating up the mouths of all you daredevils and fire-eaters out there. If you've never braved "The Hab," it's made with original dough, special red sauce, cornmeal, mozzarella, chicken, olives and plenty of habanero peppers.

Don't worry, for the weak in the mouth, Flying Pie has plenty of ice cream on hand to sooth your wounds.

Flying Pie Pizzarias: 4320 State St. (345-8585) and 6508 Fairview Ave., (376-3454).

PAN-ASIAN PANDA

It used to be that getting decent sushi on the Bench proved a feat on par with getting a decent Yankee dog beyond downtown. But those days are long gone.

Right smack in the heart of Bench-land Panda Garden recently opened offering not only sushi but a variety of Japanese, Mandarin, Shanghai and Hunan cuisine. Get your tempura and chow mein at the drive-thru window or take a seat indoors or out. Throwing a party? Panda Garden will cater and save you time in the kitchen.

Owner Mandy Wong knows the lack of dim sum in Boise has many big-city transplants hankering for a regular fix, and she's ready to start serving it up as soon as there's a demanding public willing to order it. If you're a fan of the dim sum, stop in and beg. And if you're a fan of brown rice over white, they'll hook you up.

Panda Garden, 2801 Overland Road, 433-1188, 10:30 a.m.-11 p.m. daily.
