LED performed a selection from 'This Way to the Egress' June 9 at Visual Arts Collective.

LED is nothing if not ambitious. The performance art group showed where that ambition is heading June 9 at Visual Arts Collective, with a selection from its new work This Way to the Egress.

In what the group called a "Process Party," the dancers—wearing face paint and black pants—were led in a meditation on loneliness, getting older and voyeurism by LED choreographer, co-founder and dancer Lauren Edson.

The audience sat close to the stage at VAC, which made the performance more intimate and gave the projection element of Egress more emphasis. With the band off to the side, the music was immersive.

Fans of LED got a first taste of Egress at Treefort Music Fest when it performed an early version of the work at The Rose Room in downtown Boise. For that performance, the dancers and musicians were in full costume and the audience was given animal masks to join in the fun.

The second night of LED's Process Party is tonight at 7 p.m. at VAC. Tickets are $16 adv., $20 at the door. This Way to Egress will be performed in its entirety at The Morrison Center Saturday, Oct. 29.

Enright captured Hedwig’s many agonies and ecstasies, and Tess Worstell’s Yitzhak (Hedwig’s unappreciated lover) is the perfect counterpoint to the main character’s antics.
