“The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary.” —Ashleigh Brilliant

Dear Dream Zone, Some time ago I dreamt that I was flying on a small airplane when it started to spiral downwards. I was starting to panic and told myself not to worry. The plane crashed into a lake and the next thing I remember I was looking at my body laying in the water and I realized that I was dead. I was floating above and I started thinking ... wow I am still me, I feel the same and think the same, but I knew that I was dead. —Anna 29, Buffalo, NY

Lauri: The plane in your dream is symbolic of a journey you were taking at the time ... a journey that required you to let a part of you “die” or end so that a new life could begin. Perhaps this was a journey into wedded bliss, or parenthood! Either of these would mark the end of life as you know it. But your plane begins to spiral down, which indicates you were going down into a depression. You tell yourself not to worry in the dream. Your intuition—your ability to anticipate what is around the corner - knew everything was going to be okay.

Anna replies: I did get married at that time! It makes me laugh that you picked that out right away! And not only did I get married, but my husband and I have been talking about having kids soon, and have taken the first few steps towards that. Since the wedding I have felt very out of sorts, even depressed. But with a recent family vacation (including nervously flying for 5 hours) and a few lifestyle changes (eating better and exercising regularly) I am feeling much more like myself again.

Fascinating Dream Fact: In a study at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Diedre Barrett had her students focus on a problem while falling asleep and found that two-thirds of participants had dreams that addressed their problem, while one-third actually came up with a solution to the problem in their dream!
