The Black Cat Road train crossing in Kuna has a stop sign, but law enforcement say too many motorists either ignore the sign or don't respect the speed of an oncoming train. Just after 3 p.m. on Dec. 28, a 19-year-old Nampa man was killed when a westbound Union Pacific train slammed into a southbound car. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Motorists were redirected from the scene for several hours Monday afternoon and evening while the Ada County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident. The train was not derailed, but was stopped at the intersection during the investigation.
Investigators said the train was travelling approximately 55 mph before slamming into the vehicle.
