People often ask me if working at Boise Weekly is a paid gig. It is. I think the fact that BW is distributed for free gives people the misconception that it's a volunteer effort rather than a viable business. But not only is this free alternative newsweekly a viable business, we're getting pretty darn good at it.
Last week, Boise Metro Chamber and Boise Valley Economic Partnership awarded three area businesses the Small Business of the Year award. Boise Weekly took top prize for a mid-size small business with 10 to 49 employees. On Thursday, June 26, we'll accept our award at the Small Biz Conference and Celebration, an all-day event featuring keynote speaker Rhonda Abrams, who will discuss how to "Survive and Thrive in Today's Business Climate."
Congratulations also go out to the C&H Group, which won in the one- to nine-employee size category, and Business Psychology Associates, which took the 50-plus employees honors. Join us at the Boise Centre on the Grove at the conference, or just for lunch. For more information, visit boisechamber.org.
