Note November 21, 2007

Someone flicked a scrap from our recent edition back into our mailbox, where they circled our call for entries in our annual Bad Cartoon Contest (due November 28, ahem) and wrote, "What about a good cartoon contest?"

No thanks. That's called the Funny Pages and you can read them in any large daily newspaper if you like. Instead, we've been enjoying the last year of Dawn Mannion-Walsh's work, which could only be described as determinedly minimalist. We're hoping to get more entries with a similar dedication to unorthodox humor.

Likewise, we've got feelers out for the best 101-word stories you can write. Our Fiction 101 contest goes from now until December 5, and we've got a great panel of judges eager to read what you can assemble for us. Put pens, pencils and word processors to work, Boise. We're eager to see what you've got.
